Volunteering opportunities
The Short Term Staff is the “spirit” of a season! They are Scouts and Guides who come to work to Kandersteg for a season of 3 months. A new team of Short Term staff arrives every June, September, December and March. Being a Short Term member of Staff in KISC is a unique experience. As a Short Term Staff, you will have the time of your life; growing, learning and having fun.
The Long Term Staff are the link between the seasons and the different Short Term Staff teams. Many of them started by working here as Short Term Staff and chose to return to work for a longer time. Some work here for 4 months, some for 9 months to 12 months. All Long Term Staff are doing specific jobs in different work areas like Reception, Programme, Catering, Administration & Finance, Maintenance etc. In summer, there are about 35 Long Term Staff, and during the rest of the year, we have about 25.
Of course, there has to be somebody in charge! We have a Director who is employed by the KISC Association to run the Centre strategically. The Director is supported by the Senior Leadership Team, who are working here for 2 to 3 years. The Senior Leadership Team consists of a Guest Services Director, Internal Services Director, Programme Director and Staff Development Director.
Helpers are Ex-Staff members who come back to help the Pinkie Team when it is very busy and for a short period from a few days to 4 weeks. High Season Staff are also Ex-Staff members who come back for a 6 weeks period over the peak of the summer season.
High Season Staff are Ex-Staff members who come back to help the Pinkie Team during a busy times at the Centre usually for a 6 weeks period over the peak of the summer season.
The Snow & Ice guides run our Snow and Ice programme, up in the Fründen Glacier, during the busy Summer months.
Remote volunteers help and support KISC, without the need to be in Kandersteg. These roles are usually for a fixed term, and normally online. Roles can vary from 1 week to a few months.
