Expert in the art of social media and comebacks. Knows their GIFs, memes and stickers. Skilled at turning followers into fans, creating content that resonates with audiences, builds awareness, and derives engagement.

General requirements

  • Needs to be at least 18 years old.
  • Is a member of a scout association recognised by WOSM and/ or WAGGGS.
  • Communicates well in written and spoken English. Other languages are a plus.
  • Has previously been a pinkie.
  • Has an average availability of three hours a week.
  • Has completed the Safe from Harm Advanced Learning.

Essential skills and qualifications

  • Positive attitude, detail- and user-oriented, with good organisational skills, including multi-tasking and time management.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Hands-on experience managing social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger.

 

Desirable qualifications

  • Hands-on experience in digital marketing, social media management, or similar.
  • Hands-on experience with project management tools.
  • Experience in content development.
  • Experience in long-distance teamwork.

Main tasks

  • Engage and interact with a wide range of audiences, on Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger, following the centre’s tone of voice and marketing strategy.
  • Identify and connect with key accounts and communities.
  • Identify and participate in social media trends, supported by the PR and marketing team.
  • Moderate all user-generated content in line with the relevant policies.
  • Follow terms and policies, including but not limited to the Facebook Community Standards, Instagram Community Guidelines, and other policies.
  • Work alongside the PR and marketing team and others.
  • Fight trolls.

Management and work relationships

The line manager of the social media helper is the organisational development director of the centre, with the daily work coordinated by the PR and marketing manager.

As part of their responsibilities, the social media coordinator will work alongside a team of long-distance helpers and on-site long-term staff.

Long-distance helping

This is a long-distance helping (previously known as remote volunteering) position. The long-distance helpers are ex-staff members who help the centre from a distance, in a range of operational and strategic tasks, that require a specific set of skills and qualifications.

These roles are usually for a fixed term, starting from six months, and up to two years.
