What are Work Parties?
Work Parties are a hidden treat for Scouts that the Kandersteg International Scout Centre provides in the quieter weeks of the low seasons in Spring and Autumn, dedicated to getting the campsite and buildings ready for the next season or other special projects around the centre.
With a Work Party, typically around 8-10 people join the KISC staff for a week and have the change to experience the lifestyle at KISC as they join and work alongside the pinkies on completing various projects across KISC.
Work Party members work for 3 and a half days, with 3 and a half days of free time, with food and accommodation provided for the duration of their stay.
Our current Work Parties
There are a number of countries that have Work Parties who already come to KISC on a regular basis, including:
- United Kingdom
- Costa Rica
Additionally, there is the International Work Party, which brings together members from multiple countries.
Who can attend?
In order to attend as a participant of a Work Party, you must be:
- At least 18 years old
- A Scout or Guide with an active membership of an Association recognised by WOSM/WAGGGS
- Able to communicate well in written and spoken English
- Able to take on physically demanding work at 1,200 metres above sea level
- To be able to commit to the full week the work party is present
How do you get involved?
Work Parties are co-ordinated by the National Scout Organisations or Associations of each country, with one work party typically being sent per country.
If your country already has a Work Party, you will need to get in contact with your NSO/NSA and the Work Party organisers to find out how to get involved.
If your country doesn't have a Work Party yet, with approval from your NSO/NSA, you can start the process of forming a new Work Party to come to KISC. If you'd like to lead a Work Party for your country, please get in touch.
