August 1st Parade

Activity overview

Every year on the 1st of August, people across Switzerland celebrate the country's National Day with parades, bonfires and fireworks. Also on the same day, in the year 1907, several boys came together with Robert Baden-Powell to begin the world's first Scout camp on Brownsea Island in England.

Here at KISC, we celebrate both of these events on August 1st! Our guests and staff from around the world come together for a really special day, full of international fun, friendship and adventure! This day will give all of our guests the opportunity to feel the atmosphere of international friendship unique to KISC, and to feel the realisation of B.P.'s dream of a permanent mini jamboree. Meet the world in the Alps at August 1st!

Schedule

The day begins with everyone joining together for breakfast in front of the Chalet; whether you are cooking for yourselves or being catered for by KISC, you will all eat together and take part in the Breakfast Show. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to join the drop-in activities that will be running around the Scout Centre and the village. All of these activities will run until the early afternoon when the Campsite Carnival will open. Think of the carnival as the great celebration of scouting around the world, so we would love groups to present their countries (maybe a game, dance or even some food to share!). To wrap up the afternoon, sit back and enjoy our famous William Tell Play! Lastly, what better than a BBQ after a long day of games and activities?

As it became a tradition, the day will finish up with a great Scout parade through the streets of Kandersteg after a short ceremony in front of the historic Chalet.
