International Rover Week: a Series

Inspired by wanting to make the world a little better than they found it, 29 Rovers learnt about Human Rights, Peace Education and Sustainability, and are now developing projects to implement their newly learned skills

The KISC Centenary brings different events throughout the year to enjoy and celebrate the Centre in all its colours and seasons. One of the first was the International Rover Week, which started at the end of 2022, from 28th December to 4th January 2023. Here, the participants could join us for New Year's Eve to welcome 2023 at the Alps and more activities, but their stay focused on Youth Advocacy training.

During that week, the goal was to inspire Rovers to create new initiatives and a better world by making positive change in their home, country and local community. They learnt and heard about other voices and experiences from their partners, promoting cultural exchange. The difference in this year's International Rover Week edition was in using Youth Advocacy as the key to learning and putting it into practice, with the possibility of choosing a specific area to work, "Peace Education & Human Rights" or "Sustainability".

The event aimed to develop the participants' ability to communicate their organisation's messages and priorities to a variety of external audiences, build their understanding of advocacy and ability to advocate at the local, regional, national or international levels, empower and motivate them to contribute to the development of their national youth policies through relevant spaces in each country, and even support the sharing of experiences and best practices between more experienced Rover youth representatives and newcomers.

As the Rovers exchanged best practices and received support and training, we recorded a series of short interviews with them and documented some of the sessions.

As there were different subjects and separate projects, we are producing multiple parts of this series (or episodes like a Netflix show!). Through this, we want to share the process of realising and achieving those young scouts' accomplishments — volunteers with commitment and interest in making a difference, a better world with better opportunities and, as the name of this series, 'Making Change'.
