We are looking for a Campervan Assistant from 2024. The Campervan Assistant is responsible for working with the Campsite Manager in managing and running the Centre's Campervan Project and all related administration. The person also trains, manages, and works alongside a team of volunteers. If you are excited about guest contact, planning, administration and able to motivate and manage a small international group of volunteers to provide all guests with an excellent experience of campervaning in the alps, then we look forward to your application.

  • Needs to be at least 18 years old
  • Is a member of an Association recognised by WOSM/WAGGGS
  • Communicates well in written and spoken English AND German. French would also be a benefit. 
  • Have completed the WOSM Safe from Harm course (SfH2)

Main tasks

  • Support the Campsite Manager to run the Main campsite which will be open for campervan bookings.
  • Run the Campervan Office and be the first contact for these guests (most are non scouts)
  • Support the Campsite Manager in planning and organising the operations of campsite and campervan.
  • Oversee reservations, payments, recycling and firewood.
  • Ensure accuracy of information on the campervan website (www.kandersteg-camper.ch)
  • Plan, execute and ensure the cleanliness of the toilet and shower facilities
  • Train and supervise any staff working to help clean the toilet and showers facilities.
  • Control and count the Campervan till daily when working
  • Close down the campsite at the end of the season
  • Ensure a high quality of guest service at all times
  • Be actively involved in the Permanent Mini Jamboree (for example by leading a jamboree activity)

Other responsibilities

  • Deal with any guest enquiries relating to the Centre
  • Assist in other areas of the Centre where necessary (including being on standby for emergencies roughly once a month)
  • Involvement in the execution of the Centre’s mission and strategy
  • Work and communicate effectively with all staff and guests

General

The position is part of the Campsite team and the larger Guest Services team. The Campsite team consists of the Campsite Manager, a Campsite Assistant and a Campervan Assistant.

Line manager

The line manager for this position is the Guest Services Director, with daily work coordinated and led by the Campsite Manager. The Campervan Assistant has weekly meetings with the line manager and the Campsite team to cover operational matters, and also has regular one-on-one appraisals.

Team Management

The Campervan Assistant coordinates and supervises the weekly work of the Short Term Staff that are involved in the Campervan Project and works together with other members of the Campsite team (Campsite Manager and Assistant) and Long Term Staff.

Staff Management

The Campervan Project also operates with Short Term Staff during the Autumn. The Campervan Assistant takes responsibility for the daily management of the Short term staff and any other staff working in the campervan project on a rotational basis.

 

Insurance

  • Accident Insurance (provided by the Centre): Everyone is insured for accidents, both work and non-work related over the duration of the contract.
  • Private Liability Insurance (provided by the Centre): This insurance covers any damage caused by any staff on an object or person.
  • Sickness Insurance (provided by the Centre): All LTS will get private sickness insurance if necessary. The deductible (amount each LTS has to cover per calendar year themselves) is, if nothing else mentioned, CHF 300.-. This insurance covers any treatment due to sickness.
  • Social Insurance according to the Swiss Law (provided by the Centre): Every LTS must have Social Insurance according to the Swiss regulations. This includes invalidity insurance, maternity leave and old-age and survivors' insurance (OASI). More information will be given during training.

Visa

  • Citizens of EU/EFTA countries do not need a visa, and the Centre secures the necessary work permit.
  • For citizens of non EU/EFTA countries who have not been Staff at KISC before and are selected for the position, KISC will apply for a visa, for a 4-month contract maximum. The applicant needs to be under 35 years old for the whole duration of the contract.
  • For citizens of non EU/EFTA countries who have been Short Term or Long Term Staff at KISC before, unfortunately it is not possible to obtain a work permit/visa.
  • The employment is dependent on securing the necessary special permission from the Swiss authorities.
