Only accepting applications from EU/Efta countries for this role. The Shop Manager is responsible for the efficient running of the KISC Shop with updated stocks (souvenirs, sweets & drinks), develop the shop offer with new deals and sustainable materials, oversees the shop income and expenditures (together with the Finance team). If you would like to get an insight on how to run a Shop and you have a basic financial understanding, we look forward to your application.

  • Should be at least 21 years old
  • Is a member of an Association recognised by WOSM/WAGGGS
  • Communicates well in written and spoken English

 

Essential

  • Basic financial knowledge in connection to sales, margins and budgeting
  • Comfortable dealing with large sums of money
  • Affinity for customer service and guest contact
  • Ability to work within an international team of volunteers
  • Ability to work alone and organise work efficiently
  • Computer literacy, proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications

Desirable

  • Has experience working in or running a shop
  • Has previously been a member of staff at KISC
  • Ability to communicate in German
  • Holds a driver’s licence

Main tasks

  • Ensure a high quality of guest service at all times
  • Deal with shop related guest enquiries
  • Run the online shop
  • Manage and train all staff working in the shop
  • Ensure the cleanliness and order of the shop and shop storage
  • Maintain stock levels of all products in shop, store and vending machines
  • Maintain a good relationship and dealing with the suppliers
  • Control invoices related to the shop
  • Propose new products and find quotes
  • Count the shop till and ensure it balances daily

Other responsibilities

  • Deal with any guest enquiries relating to the Centre
  • Run and develop staff training
  • Involvement in the execution of the Centre’s Operational Plan
  • Work and communicate effectively with all staff and guests
  • Flexibility in working hours according to the needs of the Centre

General

This position is part of the Guest Services Team at the Centre.

Line manager

The line manager for this position is one of the Deputy Directors of the Centre. The Shop Manager has weekly meetings with the line manager to cover operational matters and also has regular one-on-one appraisals.

Team Management

The Shop Manager will have regular contact with other members of the Long Term Staff team and it is essential to build a good working relationship and honest communication with them.

Staff Management

The Shop Manager is in charge of daily management of the Short Term Staff working in the shop. During Summer, there will be dedicated staff to work in the shop every day.

 

Insurance

  • Accident Insurance (provided by the Centre): Everyone is insured for accidents, both work and non-work related over the duration of the contract.
  • Private Liability Insurance (provided by the Centre): This insurance covers any damage caused by any staff on an object or person.
  • Sickness Insurance (provided by the Centre): All LTS will get private sickness insurance if necessary. The deductible (amount each LTS has to cover per calendar year themselves) is, if nothing else mentioned, CHF 300.-. This insurance covers any treatment due to sickness.
  • Social Insurance according to the Swiss Law (provided by the Centre): Every LTS must have Social Insurance according to the Swiss regulations. This includes invalidity insurance, maternity leave and old-age and survivors' insurance (OASI). More information will be given during training.

Visa

  • Citizens of EU/EFTA countries do not need a visa, and the Centre secures the necessary work permit.
  • Citizens of the United Kingdom require a visa to work in Switzerland.
  • Unfortunately, in 2024, it is not possible for us to secure a visa for someone from a non-EU/EFTA country for this role.
  • The employment is dependent on securing the necessary special permission from the Swiss authorities.
