USA room renovation08.10.2009
Over the last week of the Summer season, while some of the Pinkies were busy packing away furniture & decoration and moving offices, some others started to work in the USA room. This project, which has been a little bit in the shadow of the big Ground Floor Renovation, is progressing well and it is keeping our Maintenance Assistant, Chris (UK), and the Autumn STS very busy day after day.
The USA room is located in the 2nd Floor of the Old Chalet and it was renovated last in 1988. Because of the ground floor renovation it isn't the easiest place to reach but that is no problems for Chris and his super team!
It is now 7 weeks since the first day of work but it seems yesterday that the STS were taking away decorations, mattresses, blankets and starting to empty the room! It didn't take much for the big room (22 beds!) to empty and for the Pinkies to take apart the beds and table. Then it was the turn for the walls (not even the windows have been saved), the ceiling and the floor. It was a real "stripping-the-USA-room party!"
Work has continued inside the USA room, and with some temporary pop-out windows and some moisture barrier on the walls to stop the wind and the moisture coming through, it has become some sort of a cozy place to work! The new floor has now been leveled and finished, thanks to the work of the Barton Family Work Party. Work on the walls and the ceiling is now in progress.
It will still take some work and a little bit of patience to see the final result of the room renovation but we can already feel in the air that it will be a success!
