The French Connection20.01.2012
Hi everybody. I was very surprised and happy to be the Smile of this Week because I’ve only been at KISC for one week. I think this is a proof of the amazing atmosphere living at the Centre as part the Pinkies Staff Team.
But I forgot to introduce myself: I am Antoine from France and I’m 21 years old. I came to KISC to meet new people, to be a scout in a different way and to practice my English. I can tell you that it’s a wonderful place for all these things. Indeed there really is a sense of hospitality from the Pinkies. There is also a great scout spirit in the life of the Centre, to help and respect each other, with your own accent, your own culture, your own origin, and the best thing is to have fun all together. In my eyes, this last thing is the cement of the friendship between all Staff and it brings a healthy atmosphere of work.
I’m not a Pinkie because I didn’t arrive at the beginning of the Winter season, but only on Sunday the 8th of January. But I’m proud to be a Helper in my green uniform (hence the name "Greenies") and to help making Baden-Powell’s dream real.
During the last week the best thing for me was the meeting with the staff of “Our Chalet” - they have the same concept as KISC but for WAGGS instead of WOSM. We learned some fun scout songs with their choreography as icebreakers and afterwards went to the ski area of Oeschinensee where we were sledding to the village of Kandersteg with a stop at the Oeshinensee, where we took some group photos. After dinner we had fun with a team game: Times’up. After that we finished the day watching a movie. During the whole afternoon with the Our Chalet Staff we had a great time!
I’m afraid to admit that there are not many French people who come to Kandersteg as Pinkies or guests, so I want to send a message to the French scouts: “If you want to have fun in a really wonderful place, join the Pinkies and experience this amazing opportunity yourself.”
