Saturday 30th May 2009
The day started with lots of sun but that did not lasted long. The weather radar of Meteo Schweiz showed a picture of Switzerland without a cloud to be seen, only over the area of Kandersteg and thus it started raining around 15.30 and lasted until midnight.
This, however, did not prevent any of the guests to commence their journey to Kandersteg. We welcomed friends from all over the world as well as nearly all the companies who worked hard to get the KL finished on time.
Around 16:15 the main hall of the Kander-Lodge was filled with all the guests and the opening ceremony commenced with speeches by Thijs Stoffer (Chairman KISC Association), Marc Lombard (Chairman KISC Foundation) and Luc Panissod (Secretary General of WOSM). After the speeches everybody was asked to move outside (the rain had ceased for that moment) for the revealing of the KL name sign, which was done, after a countdown, by a good pull at a thick rope by Ah-Reum (Asia-Pacific Scout Region), David (Eurasia Scout Region), Jean (Africa Scout Region), Creighton (InterAmerica Scout Region), Malcom (European Scout Region) together with the Director.
The Open House afterwards as well as the party were a big success!
Don't worry, this is not the end of the KL-Blog! As of Tuesday 2nd June 2009 work will go one to ensure that all other areas of the KL are also ready by the end of August 2009.
Keep on reading!
