Ground Floor - Week #50 and #5118.12.2009
The last story from the mighty Ground Floor left you just one step away from the finishing line of our very own work schedule which felt like a downhill ski competition. Well we crossed that line and finally things slowed down a little bit. Do not misunderstand me, there are still little things to do here and there, such as hanging frames and decorations, move furniture and clean windows, to complete the picture - but nothing major.
As you can easily imagine, we are all very happy about the result and we are really enjoying getting in place the last things and starting using the new areas. It just feels great to walk through the Reception area and look around or entering the Chalet Shop from its main door - outside on the terrace! It is also very difficult to believe how much work as been done in such a short time, especially remembering the first days when the Short Term Staff from Summer 2009 started to take down decorations and pack away all the furniture and remove stuff from those rooms! It was all empty, dusty and pretty sad to see, but now it is absolutely "WOW!".
There was great happiness and satisfaction for everybody, no matter how much hands on involvement they have had in this project as it really was something that involved us all in a way. For this reason (and maybe just for the sake of it) we had a small opening ceremony. This celebration took place in the Reception area about ten days ago and it was attended by the Pinkies and a few members of the KISC Committee who lifted a glass together and said a few words to thank everybody and to wish the best for KISC.
Just like the celebration after crossing the finishing line, this memory will stay in our heads as proof of our success and reward for all of the effort. However, if you have ever seen any ski competition, and specially a downhill one, after the first moment of glory there is always a brief discussion with the press about the highlight of the run and the technical aspects. So here we go, some technical information on how our run went.
The Reception area is now fully clean and set up, the coffee machine, the leaflets cupboards and the tables and stools are in place and the neckerchiefs, which came out of the box they have been stored in for the last 3 months, give the area a very `Scouty' touch. The front desk looks professional and welcoming and the lay out of the desks in the Reception Office is very functional - we are still trying out different places for the mail out box but except for that everything else (Pinkies included) are in place!
The highlight of the Reception Area is the new shiny entrance signs, information plaques and welcome board and the improved Internet Café with a high quality Internet connection including wireless.
The Chalet Shop is ready for crazy sales too, all the items are now displayed in the new shelves and all the labels and bar codes have been sorted out. The High Adventure Room has been cleaned and set up with tables and chairs, some of the information boards and the neckerchiefs have been placed in the corridors and the Eco Adventure Room has been cleaned and set too.
As mentioned earlier on, there are still things to finish off, decoration to put up and some work to finish in the New Hall and the Boot Room (part of the ex-Programme Office). We are still going to be busy in the coming days but it is not much left as Christmas is our first important date to make and before that we have hundreds of Christmas balls and decoration to organize and some mistletoe to hang outside the main door!
So the fun (and the work) continues and we hope to see many of you under our Christmas trees!
