Be someone else’s sunshine. Be the reason someone smiles today21.08.2014
I come from the lowest country in the planet with an average ground level elevation of 1.5 meters above sea level and the smallest country in Asia which we the Maldivians proudly says ‘Dhivehiraajje’, (the Republic of Maldives).
This is my first time experience living in the middle of Alps with altitude of 1200m. What keeps me alive here is the way I start my day. I believe ‘how you start your day is how you live your life’. Here is how I start my day.
The first hour of morning is crucial. How you spend it will determine your experience for the rest of the day. Some people start their day with ‘Oh, shit! It’s another day and I’ve got to get up, damn it!’. If you have a lousy way of starting your day, you are not going to have a good start ever. The moment I wake up, I snuggle my body a little more into my bed and thank the bed for a good night’s sleep. I tell myself: this is going to be a really fun day. I spend a little time stretching. Whether I am on rush or not, I try to take at least 2 minutes to stand at my window and enjoy the view…feeling blessed about beautiful surroundings and nature. After all, it is a new day! Look at the trees, the singing birds, the road that holds new opportunities…Before the thought of the day I read the World news, try to understand what’s happening in the World. The only thing I don’t like in the morning is to take a breakfast, so you won’t find me in the dinning hall in the morning.
I breath in morning air, when I step out from the Chalet and smile to the universe by thanking god for another beautiful day. Before I start my work I put some music that fits my mood. From backstreet boys to System of a Down. From pop music to heavy and death metal. And I make sure to tell the guests good morning! It is nice to spread happiness to start your day.
At work I believe mental attitude is very important. Don’t think much about past or future. Every moment is an opportunity to create a life with peace and compassion. Reach out to others, it will make you self confident and give you inner strength. When we show concern, we will be able to win people’s trust, and this trust creates friendship of lifetime. Doing things for others will reduce your stress and give you good physical health. Don’t distance yourself from people and create barriers; living a self-centred life leads to stress and anxiety. Live simple life. Some days will be difficult and some easy, but if you spend your days with purpose, you will be mentally satisfied.
Life is short, so have fun and enjoy it! Keep on smiling and be happy. Cheers!
