Kandersteg is situated at 1200 metres above sea level, about 65 km south of Bern. The village is easily reached by road and rail. It provides an excellent base for exploring the Swiss Alps and for sightseeing excursions throughout Switzerland. The village has 1200 inhabitants, but with tourism being one of its main industries, is has many tourists throughout the year.
