August 1st
Every year on August 1st Switzerland celebrates its National Day. Also on the same day, in year 1907, the world's first scout camp was held on Brownsea Island in England. Here at KISC we celebrate both of these events on August 1st which is why we turn it into such a special day! We begin the day with breakfast on the Campsite for all our Guests to start a feeling of international friendship.
The afternoon sees the Sports Field on the campsite turns into an International Carnival with displays from various nations, carnival games and activities for everyone to join in. Why not take this opportunity to show everyone a little bit of what is special from your part of the world? Whether it is special food or drink samples or a traditional game or song from your own country, this is a great opportunity to share a little bit of international friendship with fellow Scouts. The carnival is followed by a BBQ dinner for all.
The international spirit continues through the evening with a short ceremony on the sports field, and then a parade through the village to join the Kandersteg villagers in their National Day celebrations.
