A History of KISC
Hi I'm Amy from the Republic of Korea / South Korea. I'm a Short Term Staff of Autumn 2012 and so glad to be Smile of the Week!
Today, I guided a Chalet Tour for the 'Friends of Our Chalet'. They are donators and ex-staff of the Girl Guiding Centre 'Our Chalet' and on the way to visit to celebrate the 80th anniversary of their centre, they visited KISC. Some of them are visiting KISC for the first time after 40 years. It was an amazing experience to meet the senior guides, and to get the chance to talk and introduce KISC as a current staff member. It feels like that we are sharing something really valuable together and are connected. Like this, I feel a connection from old days till now with scouts from all around the world in this historical Centre.
Since my first days as scout, I dreamt of becoming a Staff member at KISC. Through various international scout events, I’ve met many Pinkies who’ve worked at KISC. They told me that they had an unforgettable time in Kandgersteg and recommended me to apply to the Centre. Living here as a Pinkie, finally, now I understand why they encouraged me to become a Pinkie in the first place. As it was Baden-Powell's wish, we now have a Permanent Mini-Jamboree and can build International Friendships here. There were thousands of Staff who tried to make and keep this amazing place a little better than they found it and still, for almost 90 years it is maintained in a much better condition compared to at first. And many stories and history are left in here. Now I know that the many wishes, passions and efforts which were left here have made this Centre the best international Scout Centre in the world. It's quite touching and I am really honored to be here as a part of this.
Autumn will fly into Winter, and my Staff season will be finished soon. But I believe that I will be connected with and live with KISC for as long as the guides who I've met today have done. And I believe that KISC will remain like this for long with many people's love and effort. I will try my best to enjoy this wonderful moment in KISC and I promise I will leave many of my affection toward scouts in here. Thank you!
