AIDAN (CA) - Winter 2014
Hallo! I am Aidan from Canada. I am happy to be part of the Dream here at KISC! I enjoy skiing and cooking, and at the moment perfecting my scrubbing skiils! When I am not at work, I enjoy exploring the cities near Kandersteg.
agnes (at) - Winter 2014
Hi. I am Agnes from Austria. it is my first time in Kandersteg despite coming to Switzerland a lot of times. I enjoy doing various things in the Centre but my best place is in the kitchen. During my free time you will either find me cuddling with Olave or up at Oeschinensee perfecting my snowboarding. See you soon!
Alexandros (GR) - Operational Director
Gia Hara! I am Alexandros from Greece and I feel happy and lucky to have the opportunity to work here at KISC, together with the rest of the Staff from around the world! You should also come and live the Dream together with us!
caroline (DK) - WINTER 2014
Hej allesamen! I am Caroline from Denmark. happy and excited to be n the heart of the Alps that is Kandersteg! I look forward to perfecting my snowboarding and skiing skills as well as making friends with people from different parts of the world. during my free time, you will find me discovering a new dessert in the kitchen. I love cooking, you should try a Caroline dessert!
Diogo (PT) – RECEPTION Assistant
Olá a todos! I'm from Portugal and in my scout group all we do is camping and outdoor activities, it's in our blood. I was here as a guest on the campsite in 2009 and from that moment I knew I would come back. I was here as a Winter 2013 Shortie and I had the best of times but apparently it wasn't enough, so i came back in Summer 2013 as Campsite Assistant, which was not enough either. So here I am to rock the first place I set foot on in Kandersteg, The KISC Reception. It is a dream come true, a dream that has lasted 90 years forged by BP himself. It is truly a magical space and if you don't believe me, well, there's only one way to find out! ;)
DRIES (NL) - GROUNDS MANAGER
Hoi! I am Dries from the most northern part of Belgium, a region also known as “The Netherlands.” My usual facial expression is one of disbelief and scepticism, but that’s only to cover up his terrible naivety. After dubbing my bedroom the “Royal suite” as a Shortie, I fantasised myself the King of KISC. That was of course a joke, but I have returned to rule the realm of Grounds with an iron fist. And pink briefs.
Elias (de) - winter 2014
Hallo! I am Elias from Frankfurt in Germany. I am excited to be part of the Pinkies here in the heart of International friendship that is KISC! I have met people from different parts of the world, developed friendships and learnt a lot. I enjoy spending my free time outdoors, exploring the Alps in imy skiis! I look forward to making new friends and lots of skiing!
Ginger (CH) - The Cat in Olave's Shadow
Meow, I'm Ginger the other cat at KISC. Again I was forced to appear in this current Staff list even though I don't really consider myself a member of Staff and don't interact with anyone at the Centre. I already don't like Summer with all those Scouts chasing me away from my homely campsite, but in Winter it's even worse as there's millions of cross country skiers dashing past me, almost constantly hitting my frozen paws. Really, Winter's not my season! I guess the only good thing about it is that I don't have to see Olave around at all! That lazy, fat (even though Jack keeps claiming she's not obese at all) house cat prefers to stay inside the warmth of the chalet, turning her even more delusional about first ruling the Centre and then taking over the world. She's a cat, why doesn't she see that? We are here on this round sphere in the middle of the vast nothingness that is space to pur, being fed cat treats and receiving the occasional stroke over our backs by a human hand. In fact, we should not even be able to write descriptions about ourselves on a World Scout Centre's website. Is this even me? How am I supposed to type anyways with clumsy paws on a keyboard with small white lettercaps. Wake up, people. Wake up!
Helen (uk) - Winter 2014
Hello! I’m Helen from Sheffield in the UK. Normally at home you would find me climbing up ridiculous rock faces or kayaking with a mug of tea in my hand, but I have come to Kandersteg to swap my climbing shoes for ski boots and enjoy the snowy Swiss Alps! I’m a Winter Shortie so you could find me anywhere around KISC, if you don’t hear me singing I’m probably in the freezer eating frozen peas. You never know, if you visit I might be the one leading you off into the snowy wilderness to build an igloo, ski some of the fluffy stuff or just to admire KitKat mountain from all angles!
iida (FI) - WINTER 2014
Moi! My name is Iida from Finland. I am enjoying my time here at KISC! there are a lot of thisng to learn, many people to meet, I rarely have time toeven go to the sauna whichwas more of a hobby when I was in Finland. During my free time, I fancy a good book!
iñigo (ES) - WINTER 2014
Ola! my name is Iñigo from Spain. I have been in KISC before but as a helper in Summer. Now I am back to experience Winter as a Pinkie. This is an amazing for me not only to polish my english but also get a hands on experience on snow activities and meet people from different parts of the world. Looking forward to welcoming you!
JANUS (DK) - MAINTENanCE MANAGER
Hej, I am Janus from Denmark and I love being in the mountains, so I am really happy to be at KISC and therefore getting to see them everyday. I have previously worked here as Snow and Ice Guide, and Ski Guide both in Summer and Winter and now I am back as the Maintenance Manager ready to swing the hammer.
JON (UK) - Programme Director
Hi, I’m Jon from the UK and I am KISC's Programme Director. When I’m not working you can usually find me out in the mountains testing activities for our guests. I like any sports that involve wearing helmets. Cakes are another passion, and I’m working my way through the selection at the local bakery.
Karin (CH) - Catering Supervisor
Hi guys, I'm Karin from Switzerland, the new Catering Supervisor at KISC. Being from Switzerland, my specialties in Catering are Raclette and Chees Fondue - you should try them whenever you get the chance! Normally I'm busy sitting in my office, sorting out orders for the coming days and establishing a catering plan, but my secret passion is to rearrange crates downstairs in the dry store.
KATE (AU) - HOUSE ASSISTANT
Hey, how's it going? I'm Kate from Australia. I've decided to leave the sunny beaches of Queensland to travel the world! I was a Summer 2013 Shortie and I’ve returned to KISC as the new House Assistant. I am overly enthusiastic about tea, drawing and taking photos of farm animals! I'm really excited to be back at KISC and over the winter I'm hoping to learn how to snowboard.
Laura (UK) - Reception Manager
Hi! I`m Laura from the UK and I am the Reception Manager here at KISC. When I am not working in the Front Office I like to go hiking or Skiing in the mountains or explore the rest of this region of Switzerland. I love living in the mountains, especially all the great Swiss chocolate!
mette (DK)- CATERING ASSISTANT
Hej allesammen. I'm Mette from Denmark, the land where the people are taller than the mountains. At least some of us. This also means that even though I'm scandinavian, I was not born on a pair of skis to the general surprise of my fellow pinkies, Instead I'm determined to learn it. I like to go hiking on my free days with my beloved giant camerabag. I first experienced KISC as a guest with my Scout group and was determined to return. It did take me 8 years, I came in as a Shortie in Spring and now being back is even better. And that's just the beginning!
Myriam (CH) - General Director
Hejo! As the General Director, I am the one who takes overall responsibility for the whole KISC businesses. From the deepest of my heart I support the dream of international friendship, among all people being present at the Centre. Originally Swiss I have some language capabilities that are quite useful here: I speak Swiss German, French and English and understand Italian and a few words of Russian. If I’m not working I love hiking and knitting, both whilst singing.
Olave (CH) - Secret Centre Overlord
Hi fans, it's me Olave, Secret Centre Overlord of KISC and cutest cat around, loved by few, adored by many. Yet again, I hacked myself into the KISC computer systems to create my own entry on their website. This all as part of honing my cyber warfare skills to take my world domination plans to the 21st century! Puny humans! I also use this opportunity to revoke all previous current Staff descriptions about me: I suspect the PR & Marketing Assistant to have hi-jacked my account to write in my name. So just for the record, I haven't turned to poetry and my lust for power is as unsatisfied as ever. The past few months, while the Centre humans were busy with cleaning up after Summer, I built a submarine fleet in Oeschinensee, ready to strike at any time and occupy all positions at KISC with fellow felines (excluding Ginger!). As a first symbol of my wrath I destroyed the cardboard tank, the silly Reception Manager built for me over Summer, and started retreating to my underground base beneath the coke machine again. But I need to move quickly now, I fear that canine puppy is onto my plans and previous efforts to silence him haven't worked. So long, humans!
PAUL (UK) - assistant programme director
Hello I'm Paul from the UK. Out here in Kandersteg you will usually find me running some in programme activities, but in my free time I like to race avalanches down the mountains and swim up the River Kander catching fish in my mouth as I go.
PETER (UK) - PROGRAMME ADMIN. ASSISTANT
Hello! I’m Pete from the UK, and am thoroughly enjoying having swapped the drizzle and rain of the UK for the sun and snow of Kandersteg. It is almost ten years since I first came here as a guest with my scout group, and I am still finding new exciting things to do here. I am currently learning to ski, and so have the friendly slopes of Oeschinensee to discover. I wouldn’t get on a ski lift with me yet though, I may well knock you off as I am still a bit unsteady! I work in Reception here, so I will be one of the first people you see when you arrive here and, as Programme Admin Assistant I can recommend two activities: in Winter, the village run at Elsigenalp, and in Summer the Gurnigel!
PENNY (ZA) - HOUSE MANAGER
Hi, I am Penny from sunny South Africa. After enjoying the Spring and Summer this year here in Switzerland, I am back to KISC as the House Manager. Back home I enjoy going for walks, watching the sunset, going for game drives and spending time with my pets. I am looking forward to skiing in the alps and enjoying the Swiss scenery and especially their chocolate! As House Manager, I am here to make sure you have a pleasant stay and keep the buildings look spick and span!
Salla (FI) Guest Services Director
Moi! I’m Salla from Finland, the land of eternal cold and darkness. It’s my third time in KISC as staff; first in 2010 Summer as a Short Term Staff, then in 2011 as a Campsite Manager and now as Guest Services Director. When I’m not busy, I’m most likely making funny noises, watching children’s movies or watering my plants with coffee. Hope to see you soon!
Susan (KE) - Public Relations and Marketing Assistant (UNTIL END jANUARY)
Jambo! My name is Susan, am from Kenya making me the only one with the furthest distance from home. I like it here as I am learning many new things as well as adopting new hobbies like skating with the principle; ‘nothing is impossible’. I love reading and taking long walks. I love my coke zero and white chocolate. I am glad to be here and happy to live ‘the Dream’!
TAD (US) - Eco Assistant
Howdy ya’ll! My name is Tad and I am from the United States of America. I have lived in many different states but I am proud to say I am from the 49th state of Alaska! When I’m not busy wrestling grizzly bears, catching salmon out of a river with my bare hands, or continuing to grow a magnificent beard, I am having fun in the outdoors. I worked many years for the Boy Scouts of America, across the country working in some beautiful wilderness areas. Now relocated to the Alps of Switzerland, I’m excited to be the new ECO Assistant here at KISC. I’m keen to share my love of nature and outdoor activates to everyone I meet. If you see me around, don’t be afraid to ask me for a ski and snowboard lesson or just a simple “hello” in your native language.
TINA (de) - Catering Assistant
Hallihallo. I am Tina from Bavaria, Germany, you must have probably heard of a lot of things from my town, like the famous Bavarian salad. I am one of the Catering Assistants here at KISC, I enjoy cooking and trying out new recipies. In my spare time I like to go outside to explore the beautiful mountains. Right now in winter, I like to go skiing and my goal for this season is to learn how to skitour and to do some nice tours.
Vanya (BG) - Admin Assistant
Hi, I am Vanya form Bulgaria! I like reading, dancing with friends and cuddling my lovely cat Frederik. When I'm not cuddling Frederik, I'm in the Admin Office coming up with new creative way to count bills and file them according to the whiteness of the paper they are printed on. Recently, I have picked up learning German and hope to bring like this a bit of German order and correctness to KISC Administration! Jawohl!
Von Bon - Feline queen
Haloo, I am the new kitten in the Centre, I love attention, but to those who deny me, I demand it from them. I am well aware of my irresistable charm and my beauty that makes me easy on everyones eyes. I enjoy my meows to everyone, do not take it personal, it is either me trying to bond with a human, or my litter bin is full or in worst cases, I am starving! So far I have somehow stolen everyone’s attention from the Feline Overlord, Olave and directing it to myself, I think I might even start a page on facebook.
Yannick (DE) - Winter 2014
Hallo! I am Yannick from Germany. Before I came to KISC I worked at a Scout camp in the UK located in a thick forest. Now, the scenery has changed a bit and I find myself surrounded by beautiful mountains. Since I first visited this magical place with my Scout group in 2007 I have had the idea in my head to come back as a Pinkie. This dream now has become reality and I am having an amazing time in a great location with great people from all over the world. Yeah!
