The Gemmipass is the most famous of all passes between the cantons of Bern and Vallis; between the northern Swiss plateau and the Rhone valley. The northern side of the pass descends gradually down to Kandersteg and the southern side drops steeply to the resort of Leukerbad, above the wide Rhone valley. The hike route includes 4 separate ascents. The Schwarenbach mountain hotel is located about half way to Gemmipass and there is another mountain hotel at Gemmipass, the Hotel Wildstrubel.
Find below the Gemmi Pass info booklet as well as a transport schedule to return you from Leukerbad (the town on the otherside of the pass) back to Kandersteg. The perfect way back after relaxing in the thermal baths of Leukerbad!
This hike is available as a Winter walking path between Christmas and Easter. It is also a great hike in the Summer between late May and early October.
