KANDERINFO OCTOBER 2015

Dear Scout Friend,

Autumn is season of change. The temperature begins to drop quite rapidly here, the usual green colour of the campsite turns into colourful circus and the mountain peaks around Kandersteg are already wearing snowy hats.

Autumn doesn’t bring a change just for the nature but also for the World Scout Centre. Now we have 7 new members of the Pink family coming from Israel, Portugal, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom, Canada, Korea and Australia. Also the number of guests dropped down but the work remains in full flow. At the moment we are busy with deep cleaning, closing down the campsite and preparing the whole Centre for winter. But because we have really dedicated Pinkies and the help of work parties the work goes smooth so far.

Autumn is here also known as a season of Work Parties. It has become a tradition that groups are coming to help out the home of International Scouting and in return, they get free accommodation and meals for the length of their stay. This autumn we are happy to welcome groups from Portugal, Austria and Israel, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK. With their help we are able to rebuild the African campfire on the campsite, stack a lot of wood for our guest’s next year, to fix fences and steps around KISC, paint the dinning hall and clean lots of areas in the Chalet.

But for one Work Party is this autumn really special. The Dutch Work Party is celebrating 30th anniversary. In 1985 some Scouts from the Netherlands came to devote some time working where was needed not suspecting that they had just started a long-standing tradition of Dutch Work Parties at the World Scout Centre. Since then, without interruption, they come with two Work Parties each year and help us in different areas, mainly with preparing wood for winter and summer.  Thank you for your hard work and support!
