Today Kandersteg woke up to a blanket of snow, magical snowfall and the realisation that the arrival of the KISC Spring season doesn’t necessarily mean the snow is gone.

Winter flew by really fast! The Chalet just got calmer after some busy winter weeks and now it awaits the arrival of 8 new residents. There is still a few more days until the season officially ends, but let’s sum it up!

Winter in numbers

Although snow often took turns with rain and at times the weather felt more like spring, we were really lucky that it always got better and snowy when guests were around. In total we sold 777 days worth of skiing at Oeschinensee and the Pinkies guided 551 Scouts on skiing and snowboarding. Almost 300 Scouts sledded down from Oeschinensee, 358 guests built an igloo or a snow cave and, finally, 1’149 people joined our evening activities. Moreover, the Pinkies also led activities for around 200 students who came to enjoy a day full of winter adventures. So as you can see, winter was a really fruitful season!

“Meetingful” February

February at KISC was filled with busy winter weeks but also meetings! We were happy to host the Planning Team for Jota-Joti, the Staff meeting of the World Scout Foundation as well as the WOSM 2023 Task Force. For the latter, Members of the World Scout Committee, including the Chairman, João Armando, World Scout Bureau staff and other volunteers came to KISC to discuss and work towards the vision for 2023 to make Scouting “the world’s leading educational youth movement, enabling 100 million young people to be active citizens creating positive change in their communities and in the world based on shared values”. The Pinkies were happy to welcome them all at the World Scout Centre.

New STS and SMT

This week we will welcome 8 new Short Term Staff from Denmark, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Switzerland, South Korea and Australia. The Spring season will not just be a new beginning for Short Term Staff, but also for two new members of the Senior Management Team - Dylan Hunt (AU) in the role of Guest Services Director and Anna Järvinen (FI) in the new position of Staff Development Director. Along with saying welcome to our new Pink colleagues, we have to say goodbye to Salla Päkkilä (FI), who was our Guests Services Director for the past 3 years. For all of her time, hard work and all the development she has brought, we can’t say "Thank you" enough. Salla, we wish you all the best and hope to see you soon again!

Now as the Winter season ends, we want to thank all the Pinkies, Helpers, and guests who made this season as successful as it has been. The year has gotten off to a fantastic start and we mean to continue this trend during 2016! We will soon inform you about updates from Spring!

Nordic Day

Every February, the whole town, including the Pinkies, meets in the annual cross-country race, known as Nordic Day. Our Staff joined the participants in wearing crazy costumes and getting onto skis! The Crazy Pinkies team proved to be really fit as well and won 11th place out of 22. See the pictures on our Facebook page.
