Your own KISC Diary
KEEP PARENTS AND FRIENDS UPDATED BACK HOME
"Dear Diary: I'm in Kandersteg! Last evening we had a great international campfire with 800 other Scouts from all around the world!". That can be a common entry on a Blog reflecting a visit to the World Scout Centre in Switzerland.
A Blog (a contraction of the term "Weblog") is a type of website in the form of an online diary. Many of them focus on a specific topic, and many of them follow an event - that can be your annual camp to Kandersteg! A Blog is an easy way to keep records of your visit to KISC, but this is also a cool tool for Leaders to keep parents and friends updated about how the Group is enjoying the camp. It is also a good way to keep your Group enthusiastic and informed during the "countdown" to your trip.
Also particulars and even Staff like to write blogs about their stay here - becoming every day more popular. A good example can be seen here: Douglas Scouts at KISC. This Scout Group from Cork, Ireland, stayed with us recently and made a fantastic blog combining cool pictures and text. In response, people visiting their blog wrote many comments on it!
Following are some other examples from 2009:
- Gruppe 32 Pax Hill, from Austria (Blog in German, with photo gallery)
- Grupo 107 de Cascais, from Portugal (Blog in Portuguese)
- Troop 1018, from US
- 1st Spanish Work Party blog, from Spain (Blog in Spanish and Catalá)
- Andrew Flatters at KISC, personal Blog
- Kike at KISC, a member of Spring Staff 2009 (Blog in Spanish)
HOW TO CREATE YOUR OWN KISC DIARY
There are plenty of free Blog services, but the most popular one is Blogger, owned by Google. If you already have a Gmail account it will be even easier, as you can "link" your Blog to your email and use them together. Blogger is available in many different languages and you will find it easy to use even without experience.
Blogger takes care of all the contents you upload to it. It also allows you to add pictures to your entries, customize all the layout and let your readers to write comments. This is your chance to make a lasting countribution to the visit of your Group to Kandersteg!
Come to KISC and live your dreams!
