Viva Espana!
It's kind of unreal to be here writing about what great sunny weather we are having lately - I mean: this is Kandersteg! Once the snow is gone it's always raining! What's going on?! Incredible but true KISC has been on the sunny side for almost 3 weeks now! This is great for all our Staff, friends and guests - in particular, for the participants of the Agora - RoverNet and the Spanish Work Party.
The Agora - RoverNet annual meeting took place at KISC last week. It saw about 30 Rovers from Ireland, Romania, Sweden, Finland, Portugal, Lithuania, Denmark, France, Spain, Slovakia, the Netherlands, Malta and Luxembourg taking part in a weekend full of activities aimed at sharing Rover experiences and helping certain countries to successfully develop or renew their Rover programme. Led by Birute (LT), Rita (PT), Vincent (FR) and Radu (RO) - Director of the Youth Programme for the European Scout Region, the event was a success! New friends were made and lots of traditional dances, dishes and songs were shared, first at the International Evening and then at the International Campfire.
Another event, with different aims but the same great spirit of sharing and friendship, which has hit KISC this week is the Spanish Work Party - Viva España! It's Spring again, it's time to rake leaves and chip wood and so the Spanish Work Party is back with 15 participants from all over Spain! They have been working on the KISC Campsite preparing for Summer. Led by Sam (UK) our new Grounds Assistant they have been clearing sites, moving wood, painting and maintaining tables and benches and helping out with many other little jobs. As is tradition, they have been super cheerful and funny. They hosted the now famous 'Spanish Work Party Party' a evening with paella, Spanish omelette, chorizo and other Spanish specialties and lots of music, games and dancing for all Pinkies and guests to join in and mingle. This year special guests were a group of Serbian Scouts visiting KISC within a partnership development programme with PBS (Swiss Scouts). Next up was the bi-annual football match Pinkies vs. Spanish Work Party, it took place last night and it showed some good action and commitment. However, the eternal glory went once again to the Spanish Work Party, the Pinkies just burnt some calories running around and looking for the ball...
The Spanish Work Party is not over yet, so maybe there will be more stories to be told. Meanwhile, we are approaching the Easter weekend which for KISC means lots of guests and hopefully a mini chocolate egg hunt for Staff. While waiting for the Easter bunny, we are welcoming groups from Sweden, USA, Switzerland, Brazil and Luxembourg. In particular among them are a group of Girl Guides from Maryland in the United States (in the picture), the Swedish Scout and Guides Council and all the participants (about 200!) of the Ostern Smart Camp from Switzerland.
We wish you all a great Easter and we hope you can all enjoy the same sunshine we have!Luisa Fontanazza (IT)
