Snow Report and Winter Week 1 Info
For those of you watching the webcams of Kandersteg, you will have noticed that Kandersteg is currently a bit greener than we would like for the Christmas period! Read on below to find more about the current snow conditions, later opening times over the New Years period, and the special activities running during this time.
Unfortunately the Winter snow is a little late arriving this year. At the moment, there is no snow on the ground in Kandersteg, but we are expecting the snow to arrive for good on Christmas Day, December 25th. The temperatures are already dropping, meaning that resorts are making artificial snow to make up for the lack of real stuff.
The Oeschinensee Gondola is now running, and there is plenty of snow to be found around up there. The Ski runs are not yet open, but walking trails around and down to the lake are. Piste bashing is happening as we speak, so some ski runs should be open soon hopefully. The Sunnbuel Cable Car will open on December 25th, and there is snow up there too. Winter walking, Langlauf and maybe skiing will be possible when it opens.
Further afield, the Adelboden Ski Area is open, various lifts and pistes already open. Again, new pistes are being opened as soon as possible, and more should be open soon. Lauchernalp and the smaller resort of Elsigenalp, are also already partially open. By next weekend when most groups have arrived, even more pistes than those listed above should be open, bringing us closer to normal for December.
A lot of activities that run on the valley floor like the Village Sled Run and Valley Snow Shoeing might not be possible when you are here. We will suggest alternatives to activities which are not possible, but these maybe be at an additional cost, due to the need to use cable cars to get up into the snow.
Extended New Years opening hours
From December 27th 2014 to December 3rd 2015 Reception will be open longer, to help you with your Wintery enquiries. We will be open from 08.00-12.00 and 14.00-19.00. This will give us more time to help check you all in, and go through your activities with you.
