If you haven't heard about it yet, things have changed at KISC lately.
To be more exact the Director changed - at the end of almost ten successful years of work at Kandersteg International Scout Centre, Mark (NL) moved on to the next phase of his career. No worries, there is no need for "oh no!" and "mamma mia!", in fact the Centre is in good hands and everything is happening as usual. We are not going to talk in details about this, but just to give you an idea, the KISC Committe decided to implement some Staff structural changes and has split the current Director's position into two new positions. From now onwards there will be an Operational Director, currently filled by Jens (IE) and a General Director, currently in phase of appointment, who will keep B.-P.'s dream alive, of course together with the usual bunch of happy, loud and hard working Pinkies. So, if you have had not heard about it before (... and it is quite incredible that you missed it all!) now you are up to date on pretty much everything.
As many in the Staff team defined it, this is the end of an era and the beginning of a new one. While looking forward the days to come, last weekend at KISC we threw a little farewell party for Mark and inagurated a couple of places. The weekend kicked off with the preparation of all areas in the Chalet, Kander-Lodge and Campsite, with our Autumn STS cutting place holders and menus, cooking delicacies and practising on their multi tasking skills. First was the inauguration of the BSA Room, it was renovated a year ago, but due to a busy schedule we never got around to having a little ceremony with ribbon cutting for it, then it was over to Uncle Sam's for an inauguration ceremony. This shelter was recently renovated and enlarged to offer a better facilities to all those who like to camp at KISC. Once this first round of speeches and photographs was over, we moved on to the next, but this time they were all for Mark. Speeches, applause, jokes and a lot of camera flashes!
After dinner, dessert and presenting of the farewell gifts, it was time for a crazy disco party - were we are proud to announce the live exclusive performance of the Backstreet Pinkies, which just for the occassion performed some ABBA successes. It was great and ...mamma mia! Mark was happy and smiley having the time of his life... wow! To make a long story short, the party was great and we all said 'bye' to Mark with a smile.
So, day no. 4 of the 'new era' and everything is fine, it feels weird at times (especially without dogs, we are a cat Centre now) but guess what nothing has caught fire, nobody has been messing up, no major troubles... just lots of snow and daily routine. Looking forward for more snow to come, more work to do and guests to meet, until then: welcome Jens, you'll be great!
See you soon at KISC,
