Bye bye 2009
A very happy and succeessful Xmas week was followed, excluding a lack of snow, by a couple of interesting days.
First of all on December 28th, the Kander-Lodge main hall, had its first use, becoming the location for the Swiss Culture Night.
In a triumph of red-crossed ballons. Swiss-style decoration of any sort, many fondue pots, a raclette station, the local yodeller group, the alphorns players and a very intense smell of alpine cheese, 165 guests enjoyed their evening together! It was a pleasent evening for everybody and restored the spirit of those who were disappointed by the weather.
Just two days after it, the same group of people joined by the Ex-Staff Reunion also staying at the Centre, animated the last night of the year. A delicious buffet-style dinner to start with for our 300+ guests, followed by a very funny disco populated by cartoon characters! Both guests and staff did their best impersonation of various characters from the Flinstones, Pinky and Brainy to Scooby-Doo and Minnie Mouse! The disco went on till the midnight count down and the toast to welcome 2010. Afterwards the celebration continued at the village with more dancing and fun.
January 1st, was a quiet day perfect for strolling down the village, having a go at the Oeschinensee sled run and for our Ski Week 1 guests also time to look back at their experience in the snow, to celebrate their successes and to pack up ready to depart.
Then, as a real miracle, new snow arrived! And with its white and soft mantle it embraced the landscape once again. Before it even stopped snowing the slopes were again full of life. It was a great welcome to the new year and it turned everybody into the right mood to put on boots, skis or even snowshoes and jump outside!
The Centre is still in its white dress these days and while welcoming and wishing bye-bye to our guests, Scouts, families and ice climbers, we are getting ready for the coming weeks. In fact coming soon are several events as Klondike, Pack 130, School Day, LTS Management Training and so on! As always we will provide you with all the news once we get there.
EX-STAFF REUNION 2010
Every four years, KISC welcomes its Ex-Staff for a week of fun and catching up. This year more than 100 former Pinkies from Spain, USA, UK, Azerbaijan, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Poland, Denmark, Canada, Colombia, Turkey, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Monaco, Australia, Finland, netherlands, came back to the Centre to meet old friends, make new ones, visit the place and celebrate the new year together.
Our Ex-Pinkies were involved into a full eight days programme including skiing, sledding, ice skaiting, Swiss Culture Night and lots of partying! It was a great opportunity for them to find out what the Centre achieved in the last years, what is coming up and to see the "new" Old Chalet Ground Floor.
This group of people represent better than anything else the extraordinary and invisble link that connects Scouts and Guides to Kandersteg International Scout Centre. It does not matter how long has been since their last time here as Staff or guests, they still feel and believe in the magic of this place. Next appointment for all our former Pinkies is the ex-Staff reunion 2013. We hope there will be even more people then! .
..and for all of you that are reading this article but are not ex-Staff, you may want to consider joining our Pinkie Team! Visit our Stff area on www.kiscstaff.ch to find more detailed infomation on what means being a Staff member at KISC! Please also note that the application for Short Term Staff Summer 2010 is still open.
the kisc association welcomes a new nso member
The Fédération Nationale des Eclaireurs et Eclaireuses du Luxembourg (FNEL) has become a part of our family by signing up as a National Scout Organisation member of the KISC Association. WELCOME!!! The FNEL, part of the Luxembourg BoyScouts Association, was created in 1916 and has around 1,000 members.
The KISC Association was founded in 1923 with the purpose to operate and support a WOSM Scout Centre in Kandersteg for the worldwide Scout brotherhood. Any individual, Scout Group or National Scout Organisation can join the KISC Association and support the work of the Centre. Several NSO are members of it, including Indonesia, Italy, Switzerland and USA, among others. Six NSO members, elected by the General Assembly, have representatives on the KISC Association Committee.
