anders (dk) - spring 2010

Hej! I’m Anders from Denmark – in german my name means  “different”, but you can come here yourself to decide...
Before I came here, I graduated as a mediagraphic designer. I now have 4 months of free time before I’m going to do my military service at the Queen’s Guards in Copenhagen – it wasn’t that hard to choose where to spend my free time: Kandersteg of course! My rover section in  Denmark is called “Klan Sisyfos”, but we do a lot more than  just rolling stones! I really like the international atmosphere here! On my days off, I’m pretty much into  skiing, climbing, via-ferrata, hiking, chatting, hiding alarm clocks in other staff rooms etc. Of everything, the most I hate is  cheese – so you can imagine how hard it can sometimes be for me here! ANdrew (AU) - Assistant Programme Director

G´day! Im a vegatarian adrenaline hunter, but crikey! Safety is the most important thing! My favourite food is roast wallaby dipped in kangaroo sauce with a sprinkleing of koala. Don´t knock it till you tried it! My hobbies include tying my kangaroo down, eating rosti and downhill snooker. I've also invented the "goodwalk", that is like Michael Jackson's famous "Moonwalk", but forwards.

bogdan (ro) - spring 2010

Salut! I'm Bogdan from Romania. I'm the 9th Romanian scout to become a Staff member in KISC history. I like outdoor activities, mountains and my rather new found passion is social media. My time here will be spent just enjoying the wonderful surroundings, visiting as much as possible of Switzerland and making lots of new friends. If you wish to have a chat outside work hours, look for me in Des Alpes.

Caz (IE) - Multimedia Consultant

Hi, I am Caz, from Ireland. I am the Multimedia Consultant here at the Centre, which is a fancy way of saying I sit at a shiny new MAC, wear headphones and make videos all day. When I am not doing that, you will probably find me with skis on my feet heading up or down some mountain... at least until there is no more snow to do so and then I'll be doing it minus the skis!

Chris (UK) - Grounds Assistant

Confident loud mouthed Brit loves animals, I have a English Springer Spaniel (Willow), at the moment I am also nursing a black stray cat back to health. Enjoy Skiing, Rock climbing, Hiking & Sailing. Also Enjoy a good day or two or three or even a week of manual work, maybe that’s why I enjoy grounds so much.

Christian (CH) - Spring 2010

Sali zämä! My name is Christian and I'm one of the 2 Swiss Shorties at Kisc for Spring 2010. I like being outdoors and doing stuff such as hiking, playing icehockey or football, going for a random walk, sledging and cooking. When I'm not working you could find me almost everywhere (every now and then even in pubs). In case you cannot find me have a look at the main office. I might be doing a translation there.

Cissi (SE) - SPring 2010

Tjohoo! I am Cecilia “Cissi” from Sweden. I am sea scout and I live one hour from our capital Stockholm. I am Short Term Staff at KISC for Spring 2010. Here is a little about me: I am crazy and very energetic, I am also addicted to coffee.

Colin (CH) - Spring 2010

Sali, my name is Colin and I'm from Switzerland. I'm here at KISC for Spring and Summer 2010, mostly doing outside work. My hobbies include first of all scouting, hanging out with my friends, watching movies and everything that's technology-related. Although I'm Swiss I don't really like cheese and have never been milking a cow. Well, then see you at KISC soon!

Conny (NL) - Marketing Manager

I'm Conny from the Netherlands. Together with Lou I am responsible for the website, newsletters, brochures, and a lot of other marketing activities. I love the wonderful mixture of living in a small Alpine village and working together with the international staff here at KISC.

Eliane (CH) - Catering supervisor

Grüssech, I'm the Swiss Catering Supervisor working part-time at the Centre. In the rest of my time I work as a teacher and local politician in the nearby town of Spiez. After all that, when I can find the time, I love to go skiing, climbing and enjoy a nice massage.

Gemma (UK) - Catering Assistant

I'm thankful for laughter, except for when milk comes out my nose.

Hannes (SE) - High Adventure Assistant

Hi I'm Hannes from Sweden. I was thinking of moving to Ireland but they only have 1 IKEA there so I chose Switzerland. On my days off I like nothing better than driving to IKEA in my Volvo and then spending the evening putting all my new IKEA stuff together while listening to ABBA Gold.
When not doing Swedish stuff I'm running the High Adventure Programme and making sure our Guests get a great experience in the mountains. This usually involves looking good and changing my beanie about 3 times a day.

Janni (FI) - Spring 2010

I´m a slightly crazy fennoswedish girl who spends most of her time being ironic or laughing at weird things. In my spare time you might also find me chilling out in the staff room hammock, taking pictures of the amazing Swiss alps or trying to climb something – anything really, until the climbing season starts when I can hopefully go loco in the actual mountains instead. What you will NOT find me doing, though, is wearing my väiski (the finnish hat), but that´s another story. See you!

jens (IE) - internal services director

My name's Jens and I'm the Internal Services Director. In between looking after the Internal Services work (can you figure out what I do?), I try and climb, ski, hike and enjoy the nightlife in Kandersteg. I was STS in Summer 2004, Campsite Manager in 2005 and 2007 Project Director in 2006/07. I come from Dublin in Ireland were I am part of the 47th Dublin (Ballybrack) Scout group.

joré (lt) - spring 2010

Hello! My name is Jore and I'm from Lithuania. I found lots of new friends here, at kisc. For example, I spent the last few days with Ms. Insolation, Mr, Screwdriver and Mr, Saw. Together we are renovating a room in the Old Chalet - it's very cool to see, how much that room changed so quickly.
What's more? I'm more and more amazed how alive is spirit of Founder here in Kandersteg. I really wouldn't be surprised, if one day B.-P.'s ghost would come through the door with just saying "Hi"... actually, I'm more surprised, how I haven't seen him yet!

kaspar (CH) - administration assistant

Hi, I am Kaspar from Aarau, Switzerland.
As Administration Assistant I make sure all the financial issues are okay and I also explain non-Swiss people which Swiss coin is what, and no - the colorful bills in the till are not Monopoly money, we use them to buy things here in Switzerland! When I’m not hiding behind a huge pile of paper behind my desk, I like to translate things from English to German, have conversation involving wild-gesticulation, sing along with the radio nostalgic-like Swiss German songs or even winning radios in the DRS3 radio game show “DRS3 macht es Büro uf”. I also like cheese and I put it on top of everything possible. I can’t believe that some people think we eat too much cheese here at the centre - cheese is never enough!!

Lene (DK) - Bookkeeper

I am Lene from Denmark. I am responsible for the bookkeeping at the Centre. I live in Brig-Glis with my two boys and I only come to Kandersteg once a week. I find it very interesting working together with a international staff team. When I am not in Kandersteg I am working for a Ski Company, playing with my kids, doing sports or travelling around the world.

Luath (UK) - Reception Manager

I'm the blonde Scottish girl who looks after all the lovely guests who come to visit Kisc. You will normally find me in the Reception, making sure everyone has a bed to sleep in and keeping the naughty Programme boys in check! I like all things Swiss and on the very odd occasion I can be found socialising in one of the local hotspots!

Lou (IT) - Pr & Marketing Assistant

Hey hey, I am Luisa (but you can call me "Lou") and I come from Sicily, Italy!
Here at the Centre among other things I make sure everybody looks good on pictures and that our website is up to date.
In my free time I like reading, going to the cinema, buying fashion magazines, eating Nutella with a tea spoon straight out of the jar. I am also very good in singing silly "sticky" song and in writing to-do lists.

Magdaléna (CZ) - guest Services Director

Ahoj! I am Magdaléna from Prague, Czech Republic. Being the Guest Services Director, I work to ensure that all the guests enjoy their stay and have wonderful time at KISC. In my free time I love to go skiing and cross-country skiing, hiking, watching movies, reading books or having a nice cup of tea.

Mark (NL) - Director

I have been in Switzerland for the past nine years. I like to read and go to the cinema and concerts. I am the proud owner of three beautiful full bred Golden Retrievers answering (well most of the time) to the names of Pickles, Bonk and Pepper. If you can not find me in my office I could be anywhere at the Centre or in the Tearoom eating cakes.

Martine (NL) - Spring 2010

Hi! I am Martine from The Netherlands and I love to sing, whistle, skip and laugh!
Furthermore I can't stop cuddling Olave (the cat), often go for a walk in the beautiful mountains here and like to have crazy conversations and situations with the rest of the staff! Hopefully I get the chance to learn snowboarding as long as the snow lasts and later spend many days walking in the mountains!

michael (DE) - maintenance assistant

You can spot him around the Chalet fixing something, organizing the recycling or replacing light bulbs most of the time. In his free time he loves having sandwiches party, watching Legally Blond and trim his mohawk.

MOnique (AU) - Spring 2010

Hi, I am Aussie Mon! Don't mess with me, my husband, Damien, is Rambo (if you need evidence look at the scrapes in the driveway). We have a baby, Annika, and we are not afraid to "use" her if you mess us up! I do not animals, Damien should not eat dairy products and Annika is a milkaholic.

nalaka (LK) - house manager

He gets quite upset if you can't pronounce his name correctly (Nakalaka, Nakakalaka or Naka-Man is not correct!) but enjoys keeping everything clean and running laundry. He loves Texan rock, Danish movies and eating oranges with salt and pepper.

paul (UK) - spring 2010

My name is Paul and I am a crazy English man. My favourite things are playing the guitar, marmite and traveling very long distances by unicycle. Being British I also enjoy a good cup of tea!

paul (UK) - building coordinator

They call me "chief" and I like it. When I am not breaking trees with my thumbs I like to fight lions and some rhinos. I can also make anything out of wood - even toilets and girlfriends.

paul (nl) - programme admin. assistant

I am Paul and I am from Zeeland in the Netherland. Probably you already guessed it, there is a lot of sea in and around Zeeland and the area is pretty flat too. Here in the Swiss Alps it is quite the opposite of what I am used to. Well what to tell more? I started here in December 2009, as a PAA. During the ski weeks I had to opportunity to learn to ski and one day after a lot of "encouraging" words from Nalaka to take the red slope, I took the opportunity to break my leg while going downhill. Ahi!!! ...well it was not that painful but I ended up having a metal bar screwed onto my bone. A very interesting experience it was. While still recovering, I am wishing to do some hiking soon. Only I have to wait a little bit still until the area is free of avalanches.

rahel (CH) - senior house manager

I am Rahel from Switzerland. Normally you find me making sure that everything is clean and nice in the Centre, but there will be also times you will spot me snowboarding, reading books or knitting hats!

salvador (ni) - front office assistant

Spring is here baby! Snow melting, cold rain and all the plants at my flat blossoming at the same time. Look for me in reception, and meet the first Nicaraguan Pinkie ever! I like to chat for hours, white wine, non-chocolate desserts, cinema, cooking and hanging out with friends. Nicaragua!!! at the heart of Central America, the cool country with the big lake.

Tim (UK) - Caterer

Hi! My name is Tim and I am the Caterer from the UK. I have been at the centre for over 18 months now. In my free time i enjoy skiing, climbing and parading around my flat naked.

Tom (IE) - Programme director

Hey, I'm Tom from the west of Ireland and I'm the Programme Director. This means that I work in making sure that we provide the best activities and experiences to our guests; whether that is throwing them into crevasses or exciting games around the Centre. In my free time I like to do things - mainly outdoors and involving mountains!

wilson (HK) - spring 2010

My name is Cheung Wai Yin (Wilson) from Hong Kong, who received first class graduation from Hong Kong Baptist University majoring in Physical Education & Recreation Management and Scoutmaster in Scout Association of Hong Kong. Mountaineering is my lifestyle. Be lighter, be Faster, be Higher. Having a revolution every moment, make life and our nature become better than yesterday.

OLAVE - the sentinel

It has been a long Winter out there in the snowy staircase in front of the Chalet, where the lonely sentinel Olave has been spending night and days. Her mission is clearly of a high importance, defending B.-P.'s dream from UFOs (and eventually other cats). Life has not been easy and water not always drinkable (especially when it turned into an ice block in the bowl!) but then one day Kaspar came... and it was love at first sight!

Willow - The Trendsetter

Being the only dudette in the doggies crew here at the Centre involves looking charming and being energetic enough to keep up with crazy runs to catch a stick at lunch break. But Willow is also the mohawk trendsetter - she has a natural one and it looks pretty rocking awesome. Although this hair style did not impress any of the others in the crew and even less Mark, she had quite an remarkable impact on four of the Pinkie last season. They cut mohawks too - but not rocking awesome effect...

bonk - the dance instructor

Our dancing divo felt it is time to leave space to the new generations... so Bonk retired from professional Latin-American dancing and open up a dancing school called "Shake it!" for talented puppies who wants to learn all the secrets of Macarena and Merengue.

pickles - the bachelor

Despite the increasing number of member of his fan club "The Pickles Jar", our golden bachelor seems to prefer keeping his freedom. Nothing can crying fans and paparazzi on crosscountry skiis, Pickles is spending some relaxing time on the Old Chalet Terrace keeping away from the highlights.

pepper - The former "baby"

He use to be the "baby" around the Chalet. He used to be cuddled and wanted by everybody especially at lunch break... but now things have changed, little Annika got all the attention on her and she is the most favourite playing companion of all the pinkies (especially the Long Term Staff).

ginger - the guru

After being away for a few weeks last Winter, we are happy to announce that the guru Ginger is back in town. Not only he is the coolest chubby cat ever seen around the village, he is also an inspiration source, a dreamer, the best possible candidate for a cat-food commercial and he has his own indie wave music company. In his free time the guru loves napping, wearing paper hats, getting cuddled, eating and getting completely mobbed and terrified by other cats.
