The return of spanish work party
Another week is over and it really flew away! It feels like we went from Sunday to Monday in one giant leap! So here we are, October, now half way through this beautiful season! We are having a spectacular Autumn here in Kandersteg and now that we have welcomed the very first snow (which lasted just two days) we are even more enjoying the season!
Autumn is a season that must be lived and enjoyed fully, just like Nathaniel Hawthorne we cannot waste anything as precious as Autumn by staying inside, all the daylight hours should be spent in the open air! ...and what's better than a whole week of work party to stay outside!? Oh yeah we found our perfect excuse last week to enjoy the fresh air and get on with our seasonal tasks as the Spanish Work Party arrived at KISC! We started our work party time with 15 super happy, super chatty and pretty much also super active Spanish Scouts coming from all over Spain.
Our Spanish crew, coordinated by our Grounds Assistant, Michael (DE), worked hard on the campsite to get things ready before the snow (the real one!) will arrive.Working both in the Main Campsite and in the Rovergelände, chipping and splitting wood, building fences and stacking wood in the Uncle Sams wood compound. It was not always pleasant due to the temperature dropping down a little with a few days of rain, but the weather didn't pull down the motivation.
Rain and cold cannot defeat real footballer-Latin passion, so the annual Spanish Work Party vs. Pinkies match was organized as well as the Spanish Party-Party a night for people to chat, sing together and enjoy some typical Spanish delicacies.
On their last day, a nice present arrived during the night, a thin but beautiful layer of snow appeared to cover every single centimeter of the landscape. All of the surroundings turned from gold to silver and even better it kept on snowing the whole day until the last car of the Spanish Work Party left the valley. A very special goodbye but also an invitation to come back to visit us!
the greenland expedition north star 2010
Once again Mustard Robley, this time with a new companion Fran Middleton, is going to challenge Greenland’s wild beauty for an experience of a life time and also a very good cause.
The North Star 2010 expedition will kick off next Spring and it will take our adventurers from coast to coast, a journey of 1800 kilometers. The money raised will be used to fund a bed at the St Francis Hospice in Berkhamsted (UK).
Mustard and Fran are both former Pinkies and KISC decided to support their adventure, providing the funds to hire the “pulks” (sleds).
