The Snow is Back!22.01.2015
Hello, I’m Catherine from England, one of the nine winter season ‘Shorties’. This is my first time at KISC and I’m really enjoying my stay.
This weekend we hosted Klondike, a weekend camp for Transatlantic BSA members. With so many guests everybody was kept active whether this was preparing food, keeping the centre clean or being outside taking guests snowshoeing, skiing or sledding. Although all our buildings are now much emptier we are still busy. The laundry is gently shaking to the sound of several hundred sets of bedding being washed and in the kitchen the search is on for new and adventurous ways to serve bread and yoghurt.
Outside (for the moment) we have snow! The mountains look very beautiful and with the cold, there is mist rising from the river. With the snow also comes the machine that makes the cross country tracks through the village. Lunch breaks are a great time to get out and about in the snow on skis. Despite our best efforts, the locals skate effortlessly past. Some are even dressed in costume from 1910 as part of the Kandersteg village Belle Époque week. Later this week we get to try the village sled run in 1910 bobsleigh style! With so much going on there are lots of reasons to smile.
