The fire of friendship the reason behind this smile!21.03.2013
“Soon the fire of friendship spreads from one to another, and bonds are tied which will last a lifetime, and everyone on returning home is richer for memories and dreams of Kandersteg.”- Robert Baden-Powell.
This week has been full of smiles, smiles resulting from bad and good jokes, new experiences, and most importantly new people! My first week in this small village in the Swiss Alps has been exciting, daunting, action packed and of course full of smiles.Every breakfast, lunch and dinner laughter can be heard erupting from the dining hall and when you work in such a picturesque place as KISC it is easy to understand why. When the sun is shining on the snows all around the bend of the river Kander we call KISC it is all but impossible to not smile. As I write this blog I am looking out a window of the new chalet with a view of frost covered pines and snowy peeks, Sam our grounds manager is outside playing in the snow with his dog Aebi, and other staff members are beside me in the staffroom laughing at an undoubtedly silly joke. The feelings of happiness and teamwork are infectious here at KISC.
The fire of friendship has already begun to spread and we are all richer for memories we are making and the dreams we have of Kandersteg at the end of the first week of spring season, I cannot wait to see how much richer we will become due to new memories and dreams of Kandersteg at the end of our three months here and that is why I smile.
