Smiling in the snow, for the snow, and with the snow17.01.2014
Hallo! I am Yannick from Germany and at KISC as a Winter Shortie... and the new Smile of the Week. So, what makes me smile? I definitely had a big smile on my face when I looked out of the window this morning: The snow is back! After seeing everything melt during the last weeks it was a very nice surprise to see this lovely place covered in snow again. So, there probably will be perfect conditions for skiing and all the other winter activities you can do around Kandersteg. I am pretty sure our next days off are going to be great.
However, you can have lots of fun during work time here as well. Certainly, being a ski guide and showing a group from Scotland around the different ski resorts was a highlight but as you have got really nice people to work with, jobs like cleaning toilets or washing up can be fun as well.
At KISC you have a lot of of opportunities to try new things. For example, I played Curling for the first time in my life and even went to the ice rink with a group to introduce them to this sport. They all had a good laugh when I tried to show them how to slide on the ice and fell over. But I am getting better and by the end of the season, I will probably be a professional curler or not.
There is just that one thing that is pretty much impossible here: Getting enough sleep! In the morning I am always angry with myself for not going to bed earlier but there is just always something to do in the evening. On days off it is also hard to get some rest because the ski slopes and other great places are waiting to be explored. So, I guess I have to accept the tiredness. It is worth it!
I am here for a bit more than a month now but it feels much longer. I have experienced a lot and met many nice and interesting people from all over the world. There are almost two more months to come and I am really looking forward to it.
