"Design Your Law" Creative Contest
We are happy to announce Kandersteg International Scout Centre's first ever creative contest! "Design Your Law", launched on May 1st 2010, is a open contest to Scouts and Guides from all over the world, with no age or creative limitations!
The contest is part of a larger project running within KISC which aims to refresh and reinforce the Scout message here at the Permanent Mini-Jamboree. As a Centre of World Scouting, we believe that we are in a unique position to share, fulfil the values and ideas of Baden-Powell. As a way of refreshing these beliefs we are looking for an international interpretation of the Scout Law to be shared with all those who experience the magic of KISC. This is also an effective way to remind to the world what KISC really is: a Scout home: our Scout home, your Scout home.
Join the contest and take the opportunity to share your creativity and perspective on the scout law. We are looking for groups or individuals to create a piece of artwork or concept which represents one of the ten points of the Scout Law.
So switch on your creativity, warm up your brain and find out all detailed information about “Design Your Law” here! We are already looking forward for your entries!
Spanish Work Party
Spring is going very well with lots of things like Spring showers, flowers, deep cleaning and working outside. In this season we had the pleasure of having the Spanish Work Party (SWP) join us.
This time we had 20 Spanish Scouts who came over to KISC to help and have fun. Captained by Chris (UK) – Grounds Assistant, they managed some preparation work for Summer in the Campsite. They split and cut wood, restock the wood compound, cleared and set the sport field and cleaned different areas of the Campsite.
Once again they also hosted the now famous “Spanish Work Party-party” where all Staff had a chance to sing along the guitars, chit-chat and try some food specialities. It was a week full of hard work in the rain, good laughs and great fun.
The Spanish Work Party was also the protagonist of a spontaneous and intense cultural exchange between Spain and Switzerland. In fact at the same time of the SWP, we had at KISC a group of Swiss Scouts from Zurich having a Leaders Training Course. The two groups had great fun together, they enjoyed a campfire, talked, got to know each other and enjoyed delicious Spanish dishes.
We just said “bye” to the SWP, but we are already looking forward their return in 5 months time!
BBQ Project 2010
Every year, CHF 2.- from our International Evening and BBQ is donated to a Scouting project somewhere around the world.
Last year the money went towards developing Scouting in the favellas surrounding the city of Natal in Brazil. In 2008, approximately CHF 7,000.- went to the redevelopment of a climbing wall for the Boy Scouts of the Philippines.
This coming summer, the money raised at the International Evening BBQ will go towards Operation One World. This project will offer financial assistance to Scouts who otherwise would not be able to participate in the 2011 World Scout Jamboree in Sweden.
