Klondike 2010 and much more!21.01.2010
January is getting to its end quite quickly. Straight after the packing up of the Xmas decorations and the conclusion of a couple of busy ski weeks, KISC is entering the "hot" winter weeks. There will simply more and more happening in the coming days till the end of the season.
It started just last weekend with the Klondike Derby taking place once again here in the Kandersteg valley. On January 15th, 328 Boy Scouts of America belonging to the Transatlantic Council (TAC) made their way to KISC from many different European countries to take part in this event. It was three days full of challenges, fun and work for everybody both guests and staff.
Various patrols competed in the derby, which this year took the name of "Challenge of the Seven Summits".
On the other side the whole Staff Team, was organised by special scheduling to take care of the various buildings, the catering service, check ins and outs, cleaning up, programme activities and a special campfire. The campfire, in the very snowy campfire circle on the campsite, had its high point when the Pinkies performed the world famous KISC Staff Skit! The whole Staff Team performed at its best, however a special mension should be give to Eric (BR) and his interpretation of the stewardess.
Once the derby came to an end, all our guests had the possibilities to enjoy some time out skiing, iceskating, sledding or snowshoeing and even if the weather wasn't the best everybody had an awesome time! A few hours after the last Boy Scouts departed, the Centre seemd to be pretty empty, but in just a couple of hours everything was back to normal with new guests from Russia, Bulgaria and France checking in at Reception.
It is now time to look forward to the upcoming events and for sure there is not much longer to wait as KISC will already welcome Pack 130 from Geneva for the whole weekend. This time instead of Boy Scouts, it will be Cub Scouts with their families, also belonging to TAC. More to come on Moday when School Day 2010 will kick off with the arrival of almost 300 students from Schlossberg Schule in Spiez, a town down the valley. With just enough time to clean up and pack away skis, sleds and ice skates, our Long Term Staff will commence their LTS Management Training here at KISC. Next it will be the turn of the WOSM European Scout Region and Core Group Meeting, once again here at KISC, from January 28th to 31st. Finally after just few days of quiet, interrupted only by Nordic Day (a crazy cross-countryrace) we will come to the last fully-booked appointment of the season with Ski Week 8.
Looking at how much will happen soon, you can imagine how excited the whole Pinkie team is. But don't worry - between the crazy work days there is still lots of space for fun! Some of the PInkies are training for Nordic Day, some others just enjoying fresh powdery slopes and rest are out for day trips to Bern and Thun. Another one who is having great fun is the latest addition to our Pinkie Team, Caz (IE) - Multimedia Consultant, who is currently working on a promotional video for the Centre. So far she is interviewing people, out shooting some material, going through archived footage and trying to find a music backing track.
Keep an eye out for more exciting news from KISC!
