Guests, guests and old fashioned Kandersteg!25.01.2014
Hello and greetings from snowy Kandersteg! The snow continues to fall here in the alps, meaning for perfect ski and snowboard weather and lots of happy pinkies and guests. Christmas and New Years have now passed and went fantastically with guests from around the world converging on KISC to spend the festive season with us. Now the festive madness is over however, there is no rest for the pinkies as the centre continues to be graced with large groups.
This week, we have had two large American groups come to stay with us. Both of these groups are members of the Trans-Atlantic Council, which means that these are Boy Scouts of America troops based in Europe. Last weekend we had the Klondike group, which was made up of over 300 boy scouts, spending the long weekend between the Chalet, Sunneblick, Kanderlodge and Tower, taking in all the sun and snow they could. This weekend we have a similar experience on our hands with Pack 130 visiting us, only this time on a smaller and younger scale, as we have just around 100 cub scouts getting to take in the fun and scenery with us.
This week is also a crazy time in the village, as the whole village is now celebrating Belle-Epoque. This is a now 6 year old tradition in which the town attempts to 'turn back the clocks' by going back 100 years and many locals and local businesses can be seen to have early 20th century clothing and decorations. The town also has many early 20th century activities going on. One of which was the bob-sledding in which the pinkies of KISC and the staff of the girl-guide centre, Our Chalet in Adelboden got right into! The wind was in everyones hair and face as they sped down a bobsled track in an old wooden 3-person bobsled and many of the toughest pinkies could be seen with white faces by the end of the run!
That's all for this update, as we get ready for more exciteness as the Winter season continues and we prepare for school days, Nordic Day and the famously busy Ski-Week 8!
