Football and dancing...21.07.2010
KISC is officially in the full swing of summer! Although this week is ‘quiet’ with ‘only’ 800 guests on site, Pinkies have still been busy organising special events, leading hikes and serving meals. We are also busily preparing for the peak of the season next week, when we will welcome 1,300 guests for our August 1st celebrations.
As the rest of the world was having football fever at the beginning of the month, our guests were no different. To celebrate the World Cup Final, we organised a special screening in our large Kander-Lodge hall for over 300 enthusiastic Scouts! There was a lot of international cheering and shouting and lots of happy Spanish guests in the end.
Last Wednesday, the South Morningside Explorer Scouts group from Scotland organised a special ceilidh (traditional Scottish party) and invited all our guests and Staff to join in some Scottish dancing. The group turned out in their traditional kilts and quickly had all our guests on the dance floor, swinging around to the Scottish beats! Soon everyone was gasping for some tasty Irn Bru!
The weather in the valley has been fantastic - with mostly blue skies and sunshine! This being the Alps, however, we have been experiencing the usual alpine thunderstorms in the evening. Last week our International Night was interrupted by hail and the International Campfire took place during a complete downpour. This didn’t seem to matter to our guests, who still turned out in their hundreds and enjoyed the activities, singing and laughing with other Scouts from all around the world.
Today is a bit different here in the Centre. As I type, many of our Staff are running around being creative and completing challenges for the International Centre Day: a fun competition between Scout centres all around Europe. The day has the theme “Time Travel”, so they are busy creating time machines and alien planets! To find out more and see the results of the craziness here today, check out icd2010.wordpress.com.
Tonight we are also hosting this year’s first International Disco. Staff will be joined by over 200 guests, to dance once again with many international Scouts!
While we are enjoying all this fun, some people are missing out. At the moment, Mark (NL), Lou (IT) and Conny (NL), along with some of our committee members, are promoting the Centre at the European Scout Conference in Brussels. Last night they hosted a reception for members of the European Scout Associations to tell them more about Kandersteg and invite them to send more Scouts to us, as Staff or guests, and help us continue with the Permanent Mini-Jamboree!
Check back soon for pictures and more news from the busy Permanent Mini-Jamboree!!
Hope to see you here sometime soon,
