An Interactive August 1st08.08.2009
Every year, August 1st marks the summit of the Summer season at Kandersteg International Scout Centre. On this date, Switzerland celebrates its National Day, but that's not all: it also coincide with the anniversary of Scouting - the first ever Scout Camp, held at Brownsea Island in 1908, also started on this date. Being the World Scout Centre gives us no other opportunity for making a yearly huge celebration that is today an established annual tradition at the Centre.
This year, the day started with some 1,500 Scouts having breakfast together at the Campsite, in brillant sunny weather. This was followed by exercices and dance with our Aerobic Team, and once everybody "warmed-up" it was time to enjoy activities and games in and around the Centre. After lunch the International Carnival started, which was particularly fun and active this year thanks to the nice weather and the participation of nearly all the groups! This included for the first time an open Talent Show.
Dinner saw hundreds of Scouts having a BBQ around the Chalet. Once finished a traditional Scout Ceremony was held at the Campsite, before preparing for the parade to the village. Once again, the inhabitants of Kandersteg saw lots of nationalities and uniforms walking down to the village to participate in the local celebration around the Swiss National Day. The day finished with a brillant demonstration of fireworks.
