A Very Uniquely Named Snowman12.12.2014
We are the team of greenies helping to run the Centre while the brand new Winter Short Term staff are being trained. We come from 6 different countries in 3 continents but have come together here at KISC to work hard and have fun as the Winter weather sets in!
Six of the seven of us have just completed our short term season and are in the process of saying goodbye to the friends we’ve made during the last three months and accepting the fact that we will be leaving this amazing place in a few short days. Before we look forward to life beyond KISC we are reflecting on the incredible three months we’ve spent in the Swiss Alps. Together we’ve hosted the BP Fellowship including the King and Queen of Sweden, played hide and seek, visited the companies who supply the centre with necessities such as food, ice skated, hiked, climbed and explored Kandersteg and the surrounding towns. Along with all of these exciting events and activities we’ve worked together cooking meals, cleaning gutters, tearing down parts of buildings, filing paperwork, cleaning every corner of the New Chalet, Old Chalet and Kanderlodge, washed clothes, worked with work parties from Portugal, Spain, The Netherlands and the United Kingdom and cleaned many bathrooms! We’ve worked together through weather ranging from sunshine to snow battling the föhn, rain and ice. Spending three months together in the Swiss Alps with all of these experiences is magical and we have all enjoyed it to the fullest. KISC is the greatest place to make new friends and that’s something we all did!
One of our seven is not like the others. Dylan (AU) has returned from sunny Australia, to work at KISC over Christmas, after being Short Term Staff during Spring 2013. As Dylan has returned to KISC it reminds those of us leaving of a shared dream to return to this amazing place… hopefully in the not too distant future! There’s no place like KISC which is why most of us find ourselves back here again!
We hope for the new Winter short term staff will end up with just as many amazing experiences and good friends as we did! To celebrate the start of the Winter season we’ve built a snowman…
“Hi, my name is Snowie. I was made yesterday by my green friends, I have pink friends too, but this week I am working with my green friends. The names of my green friends are Esther (AU), Sofie (DK), Keisuke (JP), Dylan (AU), João (PT), Saskia (NL) and Melody (HK). I stand in front of the Chalet looking up on the beautiful snowy mountains. Everyone who crosses by stops and takes a picture with me and says hi! The winter season has just started and I’m a little fresh snow child, but at the end of the season I will be a strong and independent snowman!
Come, visit me and keep the dream alive!”
