The Return of Spring
After 6 months of being here at KISC, I have finally made it to winning Smile of the Week.
But it is the end of what has been an amazing winter, with the best snow since a few years, regular powder days and a great group of people to ski with.
So with all the snow rapidly melting before my eyes, the Kander filling up and the fields turning brown, what is there to smile about exactly???
Well right now in Kandersteg, we have the very best of Spring, Summer and Winter all on our doorstep. The skiing may be closed at Oeschinensee, but the big ski resorts still have meters of snow to play with and very quiet pistes. It’s also a great time to do some ski touring. Put some skins on your skis. Hike up moutains on them. Ski down to a hut. Eat. Sleep. Repeat! But it’s not all about heading up high. Head down the valleys and summer can be found! Today it is about 18°C in Interlaken. Perfect weather to climb sun warmed rock or sit by the lake and eat ice cream. And I plan on doing both those things on Friday. Here in Kandersteg, basically, Spring is everywhere. It is sunny and warm: The trees are budding, frogs are making their way back to our pond and Pinkies can be seen rediscovering the sport of lunchtime sunbathing.
We’re busy working right now in the Programme department, closing Winter (waxing skis, fixing sleds, putting things away). Plus we’re thinking ahead to summer – processing lots of bookings, dusting off the summer equipment, creating and road testing the new activities that we dreamed up back in the Autumn.
It’s a great time to be in Kandersteg right now – probably my favourite time of the year.
All in all, a good reason to be smiling?
