New challenges, new opportunities
Each season at KISC brings new challenges, opportunities and people. I have tried to count how many different staff members I have met and reached 131 easily. This includes the ex-staff who return year after year to help the centre run smoothly at its busiest time. The fact that they keep returning shows just how appealing this place is.
The greatest thing about being here for a year is seeing how the village and surroundings change each season. Every day off can be filled with a different activity with different staff members. When the snow was here I spent my days doing winter activities; mostly skiing in different resorts throughout Switzerland. Pol (LU) even created a ski patrol video about us which you can watch here. During Spring we had the chance to explore all the villages in the canton by mountain bike and I did a sky dive with some Spring STS. Now we are 6 weeks into Summer and I have been multipitching (climbing), mountaineering, ice climbing, hiking and sleeping in mountain huts. We can continue these activities into Autumn until it is time to wax our skis and improve our off-piste skiing again.
For me Summer season is the best time of the year. At the moment we are in high season, there are nearly 1000 guests staying with us, scout discos have started with a bang and we are preparing for next weeks August 1st celebrations. This is one of the highlights of the season which combines Swiss National Day with the Birthday of Scouting. After a day full of activities and international experiences we end the day with a parade into the village and a huge fireworks display. And so the countdown continues...8 days to go!
