Having Both The Old and The New to Smile About!
Hola. Me llamo Tommy, y soy de los Estados Unidos (The USA). This is my first time writing a blog, and it is defintitely not the first time I have done something new here at Kandersteg. I like doing and experiencing new things. I have learned how to downhill ski, I have eaten Swiss cheese, tried fondue, climbed down fire escape ladders, carried a flaming torch, swung a flaming torch, stopped swinging said torch because it was about to go out, been woken up to Guns N Roses music, worn a pink t-shirt, had my face painted in my national flag, worn a gorilla suit, and learned how to go Swiss sledding: the last three all at the same time!
But I don't think I smile enough. It's not that I am unhappy, it's that my mouth seems to like being a straight line, and my brain forgets to correct it.
And I also think there is a lot more for me to be happy about. I can taste ice cream, hear music, see mountains, smell cake, feel snow under my feet and air in my fingers. I can laugh, I can dance, I can hop, run, jump, climb, and open up all the rooms in the Centre. I have my family back home, friends around the world, and new friends from around the world. I can go do all kinds of activities nearby and not pay anything. I have enough good food to eat, a warm place to sleep, and a body that can hold this pose while Sean takes the picture. And these things are not new; they are everyday, and so I tend to take them for granted. Well, if I'm going to take them for granted, then I should stop taking my face for granted and make myself smile everyday.
I hope you do too.
