Hi to all!
I’m Jens from Ireland and I’m the Operational Director at KISC. It’s been a while since I’ve won Smile of the Week and to win this week is quite special. This week we see an invasion of Greenies to the Centre to help us run our busiest week of the Winter Season. Lots of familiar faces from the Ex-Staff have come back to lend their skills and the Staff team has jumped from 30 to 50. So the speculation is that I won Smile of the week because I’m one of the few people everyone who is here knows! The Ex-Staff provide a great support to KISC in this way and the enthusiasm they all bring to a week like this gives an extra special atmosphere in what is a week of long hours and hard work.16.02.2012
The reason this week is so busy is that it’s half term holidays in the UK and we have lots of Scout groups here to do a week of skiing and winter activities. This means many meals to cook, lots of check ins and of course lots of activities to run. The week started off very cold with -18°C on Sunday morning but soon the sun came out to reveal the fantastic snow and scenery around Kandersteg. Today as I look out the window the snow is falling and there should be 20-30cm by the end of the day. Our guests are spreading out around Kandersteg and just today there are Scouts in Adelboden, Bern, hiking to the Gemmi Pass, taking part in Snow Adventure Day and of course lots of skiing at Oeschinensee. Right know at the Centre it is very quiet as everyone has left for the day which means all the cleaning and preparation can be done as well as the normal work of the Centre.
If you haven’t made it to Kandersteg yet this winter then hopefully I will see you soon, it’s been a great season of skiing so far, which keeps me very busy on my days off (the Sunnbüel Abfart is especially good this year, probably my favourite run).
