A Beardy Grin
When I was announced as "Smile of the Week" on April 1st, I presumed it was some kind of April Fools' Day joke. Upon realising it was indeed real, I can only presume it was due to my beloved beard!
Many great smilers have also spoted great beards: George Harrison, Abraham Lincoln, ZZ Top (I think), and of course our very own Olave the cat! I have also heard some rumours that our General Director, Myriam, once held the record for the longest beard in Switzerland (but you'd have to ask her). Another group of great grinners with facial hair are the band "The Beards" from my home town of Adelaide, Australia - you should check them out! Aside from KISC being a great place to grow a beard, I've had many reasons to smile this week as we have had a whole range of guests visiting the Centre from all over the world (some of them even had facial hair)! The past week also brought with it Easter celebrations at KISC, where I ate WAY too much chocolate, and had the opportunity to take part in the Kandertütsch Egg Tapping Challenge as part of the Centre's 90 year Jubilee celebrations. This was a great chance to meet some of the local people of Kandersteg, and the sun even came out to say hello (it's been hiding behind the clouds for a few days)! Today the sun is shining once more, and the ground is covered in snow, which will eventually make way for the green of Spring, and hopefully lots of climbing and hiking. Both my beard and I are looking forward to many more smiles for the rest of our time at KISC as we make new friends, make the most of the Alps, and generally have lots of fun! Now, I'm off to try and get the glitter out of my beard that a certain House Assistant kindly put there this morning, presumably in celebration of me being chosen as Smile of the Week! In closing, remember this: in the immortal words of "The Beards", there's nothing better than a beard(y grin)!
