salla (fi) - guest service director
Moro! You can call me Salla. I’m from Finland, where people play football in swamps, swim in frozen lakes and carry their, or their neighbour’s, wife for a living. Some of us have made it to lime light with playing Air Guitar. As a true Finn, I drink a lot of coffee in order to reach for the national average of 12kg / year. Sometimes I feed my desk flowers with coffee, which they appreciate dearly. I don’t have a pet polar bear, but I can ride a reindeer. Some of my favourite things are meows & dinosaur noises in the mornings, sleeping under my desk on lunch breaks, skiing and all things colourful.
Erling (NO) - Internal Services Director
Hello there! I am Erling from Norway, and I am the Internal Services Director here at KISC. You could basically find me everywhere looking after the infrastructure, outdoor property and other internal services here. In my time off I like to be out doing fun things like hiking or skiing in these beautiful surroundings of Kandersteg.
Angelika (AT) - Winter 2016
You can easily recognize me by smiling face, which is almost always present, exept for my zombie like apearance in the morning. My maxim for life is „The Show Must Go On“ and those words also count for my job. Back home in Austria I work in a theatre. Here in Kandersteg you will find me in the mountains hiking, running or ski touring, of course just in therms I do not guiding people around, folding towels or preparing Apfelstrudl in the kitchen. I fully enjoy beeing here in in the middle of the Alps living the dream of BP.
Matthew (US) - Winter 2016
Greetings, I’m Matthew from the Great Lakes State of the United States of America! As a short-term staff member, I’m glad for the diversity of Winter 2016 season. I love skiing, hiking, and exploring the vast lands of American’s National Parks. Back home, I serve as the international scouting advisor for my area’s venturing program in the state of Michigan. I’ve been a scout most of my life, and through scouting I have been able to travel the world. I’m an epidemiologist, and am taking an extended gap year before continuing my education! Go Michigan, and Go Blue!
Matteo (IT) - catering assistant
Hi my name is Matteo, I have 19 years and I joined scouts when I was 12 years old. I graduated this summer at the cooking school. I’m about to realize one of my dreams, to join Scouting and the kitchen, working for a year at KISC giving you the best of me. At first glance I can seem shy, but it’s not true. I am happy to teach authentic Italian cuisine to those who want it.
NinnA (DK) - house Manager
Halløj, My name is Ninna, and I come from the flat flat Denmark. I am very happy to again be surrounded by the mighty mountains here in Kandersteg! I have taken up the challenge to be House manager here at KISC, and I`m very excited about it! On my days off I like to go exploring, if it`s going on a hike or going to one of the bigger cities and see what they have to offer. I also like to just have a relaxing day once in a while with a good movie. Its just amazing to be back here at KISC!
Marie (NO) - Winter 2016
Hei! I'm Øvrum, Marie Øvrum. If you were from my country, you would think my initialts sounds like a cow singing. "No way!" Yes way. Btw, I'm from Norway. As you may have noticed, my rhyming skills are superb. Something else superb is this new word I made, YOLP-You only live pink. It's true, pinkie swear. Wanna know more? It is easy to spot me, just look up and ask (I'm tall). Wait, what am I doing again? The air is a bit thin up here you know, sometimes gets me dizzy. Or it might be all those volleyballs I've gotten smashed in my head over the years, or maybe that fall snowboarding the other day? Anyhow, I gotta run; things to clean, people to guide and all that awesome stuff. Snakkes!
adam (uk) - Reception Assistant
Hey! My name is Adam and I’m the BRAND NEW t0tally fresh Reception Assistant here at KISC! I come from the North of England where it rains a lot and there are mountains sometimes. Once, I woke up to an unfamiliar sheep in my garden which was an exhilarating experience. I named him Bernard! After only planning to be here for the Autumn of 2015, I soon fell in love with Kandersteg and decided to extend my stay after just 2 weeks. Now, I get to greet guests and sit at a desk with a stunning view out of the window on a daily basis!
arnor (IS) - programme administration Manager
Arnór was an STS in summer 2014 and Snow&Ice guide in 2015. He enjoys Wes Anderson movies, biology, melancholic music, beer and nice woolen sweaters. You will either find him dancing on tables or eating stinky fish in the staff room. Even though Arnór is from Iceland he can’t ski or skate, so be nice to him. As a reward, he might teach you how to “bottom shoe.”
Ginger (CH) - The lone ranger
Meow! I am Ginger (CH) and here at the Centre I have many positions. I am the Campsite Cat during the Summer and right now you can find me in the warm shelters of Hotel Crystal, or Chalet Over There, turning our Danish male Staff into softies! You may think I have gained some weight over Winter, but I assure you this is just my Winter coat. I still remain active doing some snow hunting every day. Unlike those lazy Centre cats...
FELIPE (BR) - DIRECTOR
Olá, My name is Felipe (aka FlipFlop) and I am the Operational Director here at the World Scout Centre. I love this village and the mountains that surround it. KISC gives me the opportunity to meet Scouts from all over the world, and everyday I learn something new. On my days off you will find me skiing, climbing, mountain biking, slacklining or practicing some capoeira moves. Back in Brazil I was a leader at 1o Grupo Escoteiro São Paulo.
dot. (AU) - Winter 2016
G’Day, I’m Dot. from South Australia. After many of my friends came to KISC to be Pinkies, I thought I absolutely had to check it out. So I’ve left the stinking hot Australian summer and I’m ready for a winter alpine adventure! Back home, we don’t get any snow, so I spend my time rock climbing and cycling, but while I’m here I’m doing as much skiing as I possibly can. I’m loving being in the Alps, surrounded by Scouts from all over the world. At KISC, you can find me singing in the kitchen or hanging from the rafters.
James (CH) - office manager
Sälüü, this is James from Switzerland. As one of the few Swiss guys I have to ensure our bookkeeping and HR goes well so we make sure that people get to live the dream. In my free time I love travelling through Switzerland and the World to meet friends and also to make new ones.
rachel (ca) - house assistant
Hello! My name is Rachel and I am from Canada! I came to KISC for the first time as a shortie in winter and instantly fell in love! I really enjoy biking (although I should stay away from Trotti biking for a while...), movies, popcorn, maple syrup and skiing. I hope you can come and live the dream too :)
Niall (IE) - maintenance manager
Hi! I’m Nial from the mighty wee country called Ireland! I am the new Maintenance Manager, so all this is new to me, so don’t worry about being nervous coming here we are all on the same boat.I am a nice and friendly guy but you may find it hard to understand me but I have my own personal translator called as Arnor! One other thing is that you will find out when you arrive here is that as we say back in Ireland “you would never beat the Irish”!
lieveke (nl) - programme director
Hi, I’m Lieveke from the Netherlands. As I absolutely love the mountains and sadly we don’t have any in the Netherlands, I keep on coming back to KISC. When I’m not organising the many activities here at the Centre, I like to hike to one of the many mountain huts and sample the different cakes or go skiing and drink lots of hot chocolate.
Karin (CH) - Catering Supervisor
Hi guys, I'm Karin from Switzerland, the Catering Supervisor at KISC. Being from Switzerland, my specialties in Catering are Raclette and Chees Fondue - you should try them whenever you get the chance! Normally I'm busy sitting in my office, sorting out orders for the coming days and establishing a catering plan.
siobhan (uk) - reception manager
Hello there, I am Siobhan from the big ol' city of London in the United Kingdom. I was Reception Assistant for the Summer, but now I am ready to take on a bigger challenge and rule the front office (along with Von Bon the cat of course) as Reception Queen...I mean Reception Manager. I can be found in the front office drinking tea out of my large London bus mug and dreaming of the next place I want to visit on a day off! (P.S want to get on my good side? Provide me with dairy milk/galaxy chocolate or some cute stationary and i'll hook you up with the finest room in this establishment (maybe).
paul (uk) - grounds manager
Hello, I’m Paul from the UK. Here in Kandersteg I have traded in the rolling hills of the Peak District Countryside for some of the most stunning Alpine scenery out there. You will usually find me moving snow from one place to another, out and about on our campsite, in the nearby forest, or doing all of the recycling for our many guests this season. I am also very appreciative of all kinds of edible gifts that guests bring us, particularly Percy Pigs and Dairy Milk! Hint, hint, nudge, nudge…
Sophie (UK) - Winter 2016
Hey, I'm Sophie from the UK. I'm so excited to be part of the Winter short term staff team. I've swapped the concrete jungle that is London for the beautiful mountains of Kandersteg! I've been here already for two summers as a Venture Abroad rep, so some of you might recognise me ;) but I'm now finaly in Pink and ready for the adventure! I can't wait become an expert at all things Pink like helping in catering, doing daily cleaning and winter activities. On my day off i'll probably be skiing, sleeping or waxing skis.
Olave (CH) - Secret Centre Overlord
Hi fans, it's me Olave, Secret Centre Overlord of KISC and cutest cat around, loved by few, adored by many. Yet again, I hacked myself into the KISC computer systems to create my own entry on their website. This all as part of honing my cyber warfare skills to take my world domination plans to the 21st century! Puny humans! I also use this opportunity to revoke all previous current Staff descriptions about me: I suspect the PR & Marketing Assistant to have hi-jacked my account to write in my name. So just for the record, I haven't turned to poetry and my lust for power is as unsatisfied as ever. The past few months, while the Centre humans were busy cleaning up after Summer, I built a submarine fleet in Oeschinensee, ready to strike at any time and occupy all positions at KISC with fellow felines (excluding Ginger!). As a first symbol of my wrath I destroyed the cardboard tank, the silly Reception Manager built for me over last Summer, and started retreating to my underground base beneath the coke machine again. But I need to move quickly now, I fear that the canine from Hotel Crystal, "Codename: Bari" is onto my plans and previous efforts to silence him haven't worked. So long, humans!
Sørine (DK) - Winter 2016
Halløj! I'm Sørine. I've changed my flat and wet scenery in Denmark out with incredible alps and snow here at kisc. I spend a lot of my time pointing out how awesome Denmark is despite the lack of mountains. Maybe I should build my own mountain out of LEGO and eat liquorice on the top while I sing "æææ, øøøø ååååå!" to prove my point? If you come to kisc you will find me skiing or see me trying to teach people how to say my name corectly. I can teach you as well! Vi ses :)
katarina (sk) - pr & marketing assistant
My heart beats in the middle of Europe- in Slovakia. I'm a Minion lover, who likes the smell of sleeping bag and nature after rain, quitar sessions around campfire with people who can't actually sing, parking tractor with the trailer, wet and wild dancing, the sound of bicycle wheels, photoshophing, posting statuses and PRomoting the most beautiful place on the earth .... and opening presents!
Monika (LT) - Administration and Finance Assistant
Labas! I am Monika from a small country in the middle of Europe (at least we claim that) – Lithuania. At the moment I spend my best days here, at KISC! Usually you can find me in the admin office between the mountains of folders and piles of papers. All the other time I will be walking outside and enjoying Alps, reading a book in a cozy spot or learning how to sky (mission (im)possible).
Stav (IL) - Winter 2016
Shalom, I’m Stav from the holy land of Israel. I came from the hot weather of Tel Aviv to the freezing weather of Kandersteg. When I’m not cooking some food or cleaning toilets, I love to go out and ski in the beautiful alps of Switzerland. If you don’t see me on the mountains, I’m probably playing the piano while writing a new song about the beautiful view from my room in the chalet. So if you have some free time and you want some entertainment find me in the centre and I’ll put on a show for you.
tom (DE) - Winter 2016
Hallo zusammen! I am Tom, 19 years old and I come from Germany. After having finished my A-Levels I was looking for an opportunity to experience something new. And now, I am here at KISC. After one weak of training I can say: You won’t find a place on earth where you can gain as much experience as you can here. Now I can spend even more time on scouting than I do in my hometown Wächtersbach. Only my beloved football boots had to stay at home. Instead of playing football I try to go skiing as often as possible and enjoy all the other winter activities in Kandersteg.
Oscar (SE) - assistant programme director
HellO! My name is Oscar, and I´m your normal non-friendly, boring, depressive swedish person. When I´m not busy doing unfun and non impressive stuff, I usually spend my time in the mountains doing either hiking, climbing or skiing. I also very much enjoy boardgames of different kinds, and tee, lots and lots of tee. Also, I´m normally quite fun-friendly.
lisa (SE) - programme development assistant
Hej, Hejsan and Hallojsan! I’m Lisa from the happy, singing Sweden. If I’m not sitting on my chair in the front office or talking to guest at the counter, I’m probably out somewhere on the campsite preparing for an amazing campfire or preparing other exciting activities. When I’m not sitting on my chair, at the counter or out on the campsite I’m probably off. When I’m off you will probably find me crusing down a slope, hiking around in the mountains or planning exciting adventures. Hope to see you here at KISC!
Von Bon (CH) - Feline queen
Halloo, I am the new kitten in the Centre, I love attention, but to those who deny it to me, I will demand it from them. I am well aware of my irresistable charm and my beauty that makes me easy on everyone's eyes. I enjoy my meowing to everyone, so do not take it personal, it is either me trying to bond with a human, or my litter bin is full or in worst cases, I am starving! So far I have somehow stolen everyone’s attention from the Feline Overlord, Olave and directing it to myself and I think I might even start a page on Facebook.
