Maya (il) - autumn 2015
Shalom! I am Maya from Israel, the land of milk and honey. Imagine cows roaming on mountains throughout the desert with Moses by their side, this what I see every morning (well, nearly!). Now at KISC things are not so diffrent from life at home, most of all because I see cows every day! I also seem to sleep every lunch break after eating cookies, and still love listening to music on my amazing iPod.
RAFA (PT) - autumn 2015
Hello, I'm Rafa from Portugal! I'm a scouting enthusiast from Coimbra, and I'm spending the next three months here at KISC as Short Term Staff. In my spare time I like to play music to my fellow staff members, even if I only know about 10% of the lyrics. I also enjoy spending time with my friends, preparing Portuguese dishes in the kitchen and being outdoors! Playing football is also nice, so if you want a match you know who to come and find! I'm living the dream in one of the most beautiful places in the world!
Mark (dk) - catering assistant
Hej alle sammen. I'm Mark from DenMARK and here at the World Centre, I am one of the Catering Assistants that work hard to cook you some nice food, so that you have a lot of energy to get out and enjoy the Swiss Alps and feel the magic of the Permanent Mini Jamboree. When I don’t have my pink t-shirt on, cooking up a storm, or crying over the onions (or trying to get a nap on the roof, but shhh....don’t tell anybody), I love to get out and enjoy the wonderful nature that we have surrounding us here at KISC.
Anne (FI) - house Manager
Moi! I’m Anne (or like some people like to call me: Ann, Anna, Annie, Anei, nne…) and I come from Finland. This Autumn is my last season here at KISC, so I look forward to making it an awesome one and having one last go at the attempt to deep clean everything! On my days off I like to hide away from the bad weather with a movie or just good company, and if the weather is nice you might even see me go outside, especially if it is skiing weather(fingers crossed for early snow this year!). KISC is a magical place and even after 10 months it keeps on being as exciting as the first 10 hours!
Sujin (KR) - autumn 2015
An-knung ~ I'm Sujin from South Korea!! I have recently joined the pinkie crew! They say I'm sweet and cheerful. On my days off you'll find me hiking, climbing and being crazy hehehe! Before coming to KISC I was living in a building forest in Korea, but now every morning I wake up in a super awesome place with super awesome people. How amazing it is !!
boaz (il) – catering assistant
Shalom Aleichem! My name is Boaz, but around the centre I'm often known as Boyz, I come from the coastline of the holy land, Israel. While in pink, I'm working in the stomach of the centre, as one of the catering assistants that work hard trying to cook you some nice food, and make sure that no one will die from food poisoning. When I'm off you'll find me somewhere around the village or the mountains that surround it, always with one or two of my fellow pinkies – that with all the respect to the Swiss mountains, they (the pinkies) are the most amazing thing in this place – and what makes the permanent mini jamboree to my permanent home in the Swiss alps. You have to come and meet them!
adam (uk) - autumn 2015
Hey! My name is Adam and I come from the North of England where it rains a lot and there are mountains sometimes. Once, I woke up to an unfamiliar sheep in my garden which was an exhilarating experience. I named him Bernard! If you would like to see a picture come find me in my free time, where I'll either be asleep or eating junk food, probably. I am the unofficial leader of the short term staff, and look forward to being the coolest STS around for the next 3 months! PS: Short people are cool.
alex (uk) - programme admin assistant
Hi! I’m Alex, the Programme Admin Assistant. Most of the time you will find me in the front office, organising programme, talking to guests and external companies or petting Von Bon. On my days off I like hiking, dodging rocks kicked by Steinbock and climbing mountains (as you will see in all my other ‘about me’ texts.) The biggest mountain I have yet to conquer is the mountain of paperwork on my desk! It’s great to be working in KISC, its hard to find a more international scout experience! – When I say ‘KANDER!’ you say ‘STEG!’
Quotes about Alex:
‘Meow’ Von Bon, Centre Cat.
‘I don’t know, get someone better. I can’t think of anything nice to say’ Siobhan Casey, Reception Manager.
‘How did you get into my hotel room?’ Paul McCartney, Rock Star.
‘Alex taught me not to believe everything you read on the internet.’ Baden Powell, Founder of the Scouting movement and Chief scout of the world.
Ginger (CH) - The lone ranger
Meow! I am Ginger (CH) and here at the Centre I have many positions. I am the Campsite Cat during the Summer and right now you can find me in the warm shelters of Hotel Crystal, or Chalet Over There, turning our Danish male Staff into softies! You may think I have gained some weight over Winter, but I assure you this is just my Winter coat. I still remain active doing some snow hunting every day. Unlike those lazy Centre cats...
FELIPE (BR) - Operational DIRECTOR
Olá, My name is Felipe (aka FlipFlop) and I am the Operational Director here at the World Scout Centre. I love this village and the mountains that surround it. KISC gives me the opportunity to meet Scouts from all over the world, and everyday I learn something new. On my days off you will find me skiing, climbing, mountain biking, slacklining or practicing some capoeira moves. Back in Brazil I was a leader at 1o Grupo Escoteiro São Paulo.
matt (au) - autumn 2015
Hey hey, I'm Matt from Australia and super excited to be here as a Pinkie at KISC! It's hard to imagine a better place to spend these three months of my life, even if I have to deal with an oddly timed Autumn, cars constantly driving on the wrong side of the road, and the absence of Kangaroos. During my time here I hope to convert as many people as possible to the real eighth wonder of the world, Vegemite, a task which will require perseverance I'm sure!
James (CH) - office manager
Sälüü, this is James from Switzerland. As one of the few Swiss guys I have to ensure our bookkeeping and HR goes well so we make sure that people get to live the dream. In my free time I love travelling through Switzerland and the World to meet friends and also to make new ones.
rachel (ca) - house assistant
Hello! My name is Rachel and I am from Canada! I came to KISC for the first time as a shortie in winter and instantly fell in love! I really enjoy biking (although I should stay away from Trotti biking for a while...), movies, popcorn, maple syrup and skiing.
I hope you can come and live the dream too :)
patrick (dk) - maintenance manager
My name is Patrick and im the fixer guy around here, you can usually find me in my workshop cave under the new chalet or just look for the guy that looks like he has absolutely no clue about what he is doing. Im also the guy that limps like Dr. House, because I am currently rocking a cyborg looking brace around my knee, because I smashed it up doing an awesome jump over a crevasse on a glacier. It cost me a smashed knee and an operation, but it was an AWESOME jump. And it gave me a free helicopter ride!
lieveke (nl) - programme director
Hi, I’m Lieveke from the Netherlands. As I absolutely love the mountains and sadly we don’t have any in the Netherlands, I keep on coming back to KISC. When I’m not organising the many activities here at the Centre, I like to hike to one of the many mountain huts and sample the different cakes or go skiing and drink lots of hot chocolate.
salla (fi) - guest service director
Moro! You can call me Salla. Or Shallalla if you ask Felipe. Lieveke may just meow (and I meow back). I come from Finland, where people play swamp football, swim in frozen lakes and carry their, or their neighbour’s, wife for a living. Some of us have made it to lime light of fame with playing the Air Guitar. As a true Finn, I drink a lot of coffee in order to reach for the national average of 12kg per year. Sometimes I feed coffee for the flowers on my desk, which they appreciate dearly. Since most Finns don’t talk much, I get told to shut up whenever I visit home. Some of my favourite things are making funny sounds, sleeping under my desk on lunch breaks, skiing all things colourful.
Karin (CH) - Catering Supervisor
Hi guys, I'm Karin from Switzerland, the Catering Supervisor at KISC. Being from Switzerland, my specialties in Catering are Raclette and Chees Fondue - you should try them whenever you get the chance! Normally I'm busy sitting in my office, sorting out orders for the coming days and establishing a catering plan.
siobhan (uk) - reception manager
Hello there, I am Siobhan from the big ol' city of London in the United Kingdom. I was Reception Assistant for the Summer, but now I am ready to take on a bigger challenge and rule the front office (along with Von Bon the cat of course) as Reception Queen...I mean Reception Manager. I can be found in the front office drinking tea out of my large London bus mug and dreaming of the next place I want to visit on a day off! (P.S want to get on my good side? Provide me with dairy milk/galaxy chocolate or some cute stationary and i'll hook you up with the finest room in this establishment (maybe)).
paul (uk) - grounds manager
Hello, I’m Paul from the UK. This season we have several Work Parties coming to Kandersteg to help us and it is my job to keep these people enthusiastic and focussed on our work instead of staring at the amazing scenery here. So if you come and try to find us, you might see us collecting leaves on the campsite, moving lots of things before they get snowed on or taking the recycling to the village. But I will also be looking forward to the chance to work with people from all over the world, and to try some of their local delicacies. Particularly the Spanish Tortilla and the Dutch Stroopwafels!
jordan (uk) - autumn 2015
Hi! I’m Jordan, I’m from the beautiful green shores of Northern Ireland! I’m 22 years old but don't look a day over 18 due to a fantastic moisturiser! I’m one of 7 additions to the pinkie crew for the autumn season. If you're wondering what i look like in pink, i pretty csmuch resemble a beautifully elegant, tall & slim flamingo. On my days off your normally find me tired, hot and sweaty half way up a mountain. Peace!
Olave (CH) - Secret Centre Overlord
Hi fans, it's me Olave, Secret Centre Overlord of KISC and cutest cat around, loved by few, adored by many. Yet again, I hacked myself into the KISC computer systems to create my own entry on their website. This all as part of honing my cyber warfare skills to take my world domination plans to the 21st century! Puny humans! I also use this opportunity to revoke all previous current Staff descriptions about me: I suspect the PR & Marketing Assistant to have hi-jacked my account to write in my name. So just for the record, I haven't turned to poetry and my lust for power is as unsatisfied as ever. The past few months, while the Centre humans were busy cleaning up after Summer, I built a submarine fleet in Oeschinensee, ready to strike at any time and occupy all positions at KISC with fellow felines (excluding Ginger!). As a first symbol of my wrath I destroyed the cardboard tank, the silly Reception Manager built for me over last Summer, and started retreating to my underground base beneath the coke machine again. But I need to move quickly now, I fear that the canine from Hotel Crystal, "Codename: Bari" is onto my plans and previous efforts to silence him haven't worked. So long, humans!
Heather (ca) - autumn 2015
Hi! My name is Heather I’m originally from England but i have since relocated to the prairie filled Alberta, Canada. I’m one of the crazy new Autumn Pinkies. I actually live close to the mountains, but the scenery here is much nicer and there are no bears to chase you while you hike. I’m hoping I can get a few hikes in, before the snow comes. I’m excited because I get to live the dream with other crazy pinkies.
katarina (sk) - pr & marketing assistant
My heart beats in the middle of Europe- in Slovakia. I'm a Minion lover, who likes the smell of sleeping bag and nature after rain, quitar sessions around campfire with people who can't actually sing, parking tractor with the trailer, wet and wild dancing, the sound of bicycle wheels, photoshophing, posting statuses and PRomoting the most beautiful place on the earth .... and opening presents!
PEDRO (co) - Administration Assistant
Qué mas, I Am Pedro From the exotics lands of Colombia, and Im back in the Swiss alps to climb in the mountains around me and enjoy my time here with people from all around the world, and have fun with numbers all day in the admin office with a “Brujo ” of the finances .
PETE (UK) - assistant programme director
Hello everyone, I’m Pete from the wildly un-mountainous expanses of Bedford, UK. Given the flatness of where I grew up, I am positively giddy with excitement to be living here in Kandersteg where I can climb, hike and ski as much as I like. When I’m not out enjoying the alps, or photographing stuff, you’ll find me in Reception as the Assistant Programme Director, making sure all the activities we run are up to scratch, and that we have super awesome enthusiastic staff to run them! That means I know almost all there is about the activities to do around Kandersteg, so ask me anytime and I’ll find you something awesome to do!
Von Bon - Feline queen
Halloo, I am the new kitten in the Centre, I love attention, but to those who deny it to me, I will demand it from them. I am well aware of my irresistable charm and my beauty that makes me easy on everyone's eyes. I enjoy my meowing to everyone, so do not take it personal, it is either me trying to bond with a human, or my litter bin is full or in worst cases, I am starving! So far I have somehow stolen everyone’s attention from the Feline Overlord, Olave and directing it to myself and I think I might even start a page on Facebook.
