Alexandros (GR) - Reception Manager
Gia Hara! I am Alexandros from Greece and I feel happy and lucky to have the opportunity to work here at KISC, together with the rest of the Staff from around the world! You should also come and live the Dream together with us!
Andrea (CH) - Office Manager
Tschou zäme! My name is Andrea and I’m the Office Manager. I’m responsible for the Finances and all the Administration Stuff that no one else wants to do. I live in a little Chalet in Kandersteg and I’m a member of the steering committee of the Junior Chamber International Frutigland. In my free time I love to go shopping! But I also try to be a bit sporty and I’m going weekly to my Zumba training. Kandersteg is my most favorite town to live so I spend also a lot of my free time in the wonderful nature of the Berner Oberland.
Caoimhe (IE) - Autumn 2011
Dia Duit, I'm Caoimhe (pronounced KEEVA) from Dublin, Ireland. Despite being Irish, I actually do eat more than just potatoes and would gladly live on chocolate if I could !! I love to read, hike and especially sing and you can often find me singing to myself. I am delighted to be a Pinkie and I know that I am going to have an amazing experience here in KISC.
Eliane (CH) - Catering Supervisor
Grüssech, I'm the Swiss Catering Supervisor working part-time at the Centre. In the rest of my time I work as a teacher in the nearby town of Spiez. After all that, when I can find the time, I love to go skiing, climbing and enjoy a nice massage.
Ginger (CH) - Number two
Meow, I'm Ginger the Number Two Cat of KISC. Since Olave has turned evil, I prefer not to show up around the Centre anymore and stroll around the campsite or Chalet Over There instead. Seriously, that Olave cat really freaks me out. People think she's just misunderstood, but I know she's just weird. What do people see in her? I'm now fully concentrating on becoming a Spaghetti Western hero, being lonesome, heroic and mysterious. In the end, I will overthrow Olave's plans and be everyone's favourite again. And what's going on with that Twitter thing anyway? I doubt that Olave is behind that account, she probably just employs a ghost writer. Stupid humans, falling for this cheap trick!
JACK (UK) - Reception Manager
Hi my name is Jack and I’m from London, UK. I like being outside, especially when the sun is shining! I intend to climb as many mountains as possible around here, I’m ticking them off as I go. You’ll regularly find me hanging out around the coffee machine, especially if there’s cake! I also like arranging/fixing smile of the week, and will accept bribes. I’m really enjoying being in reception, so I’ll see you when you arrive!!!
jenneke (NL) - House manager
Tall, Dutch, obsessed by geometrical folding system for beddings and really into juggling, Jenneke is our House Lady. The toilets aren't clean? You can complain to her. There's no toilet paper? You can complain to her. Missing a pillow in your room? You can complain to her. When not at work she loves deep frying stuff - mainly Dutch bitterballen - for Michael - and listening to Baywatch-ish music from the 90s. Jenneke doesn't like IKEA shopping, loosing her Swiffer, Lady Gaga's Bad Romance and Olave.
JENS (IE) - Operational Director
My name's Jens and I'm Operational Director. I look after the operations of KISC and in my free time I try and climb, ski, hike and enjoy the nightlife in Kandersteg. I was STS in Summer 2004, Campsite Manager in 2005, 2007 Project Director in 2006/07 and Internal Services Director in 2008/09/10. I come from Dublin in Ireland were I am part of the 47th Dublin (Ballybrack) Scout group.
Johan (SE) - Autumn 2011
Johan is from Sweden, as the "(SE)" behind his name suggests. As a Swede, he naturally likes Fika, Köttbullar and IKEA; you should see him put up Billy shelves (without manual!), he's probably holding a world record in this. His favourite dish is salty pizza. When he's not busy travelling to Thun and Bern, he spends his time writing criminal fiction and has in this area already been compared to Swedish masters like Stieg Larsson or Astrid Lindgren. The latter actually took Johan as inspiration for beloved literary characters such as Tommy Settergren or Mr. Nilsson. The fame never rose to his head which is why he's volunteering here at KISC.
Jon (UK) - Programme Director
Hi, I’m Jon from the Uk and am the new Programme Director. When I’m not working you can usually find me out in the mountains testing activities for our guests. I like any sports that involve wearing helmets. Cakes are another passion, and I’m working my way through the selection at the local bakery.
Jon (UK) - Autumn 2011
As the only Brit on the Short Term Staff team here at KISC, I have decided that it is my civic duty to educate everyone in the Alps about the joys of tea, scones, and saying things like “blimey!” or “heavens to betsy!” You can often find me swinging from the rafters in the staff room, or making enough tea to float the navy during coffee breaks, and if I get a day off you can usually find me wandering round the mountains singing to the sheep and living the dream of being in the Lord of the Rings! I am really looking forward to my time at KISC, and also all the snow that a passing mountain goat told me was due to arrive at the end of our season...
kike (ES) - High adventure assistant
Hola! My name is Kike and I’m one of the two 'Spanish Invaders' at KISC. I’m also the High Adventure Assistant so if you want to go hiking, climbing or any other activity around this mountains I’m always ready to advise you. I like to check the weather forecast all the time…mmmm.. oh sorry - a big storm is approaching! See you at KISC!!!
KYLE (US) - Autumn 2011
Hello! My name is Kyle and I am from New Canaan, Connecticut which is about 1 hour away from the Big Apple (New York City). I love listening to classic rock and country music. My favorite things to do in my free time are hiking, rock climbing, being outside, or just relaxing with my friends. I am also an Eagle Scout with my scout troop from back home, Troop 70. We visited during the Summer of 2009 and I loved it so much that I decided to come back and become staff. I hope your visit to KISC will be just as fun and exciting as mine!
Laura (AU) - Autumn 2011
Hey Hey! My name's Laura and I'm from sunny Queensland, Australia. Since I absolutely love mountains, being at KISC surrounded by alp-ness and spending time in the great outdoors is superb. At first I was suprised that the cows actually wear cow bells (I thought that was just in the movies!) and have since decided I shall definitely be smuggling home some Swiss lambs and mountain goats. At the moment I'm on a gap year from study, and when I'm not frolicking in green meadows you'll often find me drinking tea, snapping some artistic shots or appreciating good music.
lou (it) - PR & Marketing Assistent
When not busy working on the Annual Report, Photoshop-ing people and stuff around or being very late in writing the latest news (yeah... she is the one to be blamed!), Lou enjoys attempting growing vegetables and herbs, looking after her cactus named "Tim", peeling oranges, cooking broccoli soup and playing scrabble. Also she is currently working on a re-make of a famous Leslie Gore song, that she retitled "Sunshine, Cherry and Goldfish".
magdaléna (CZ) - Guest Services Director
Ahoj! I am Magdaléna from Prague, Czech Republic. Being the Guest Services Director, I work to ensure that all the guests enjoy their stay and have wonderful time at KISC. In my free time I love to go skiing and cross-country skiing, hiking, watching movies, reading books or having a nice cup of tea.
matt (UK) - Assistant Programme Director
Hello, my name is History Boy! Why, mainly because I like history, but also because... well I don't know really, that's in the past anyway. I like pretending to ski, putting people into large fabric bags, practicing my Scottish accent and sharpening the pencils in Reception. I'm starting to work on my beanie collection so I can restore the Programme Department to its former glory!
MICHAEL (DE) - Maintenance Assistant
You can spot him around the Chalet fixing something, organizing the recycling or replacing light bulbs most of the time. In his free time he loves having sandwich parties, watching Legally Blond and trimming his mohawk.
Miguel (MX) - Autumn 2011
Hi! I am Miguel, I am from Mexico! I like to go hiking, climbing, and swimming, things that I am going to be able to do just in my first month but that's OK, I have never been in snow so I can't wait for it and make a snowman with a hat and a carrot as his nose. If you don't speak Spanish and you are not from the US or Canada, please talk slowly!!!!! I am really sure that I am going to be the first one losing my keys and I love to scare the cats telling them that I hate them! In my free time I love to lose in cheesy games with Susi and ask Magdaléna why she is looking at me "like that". If you think I am cute give me a call!
MYRIAM (CH) - General Director
Hejo! As the General Director, I am the one who takes overall responsibility for the whole KISC businesses. From the deepest of my heart I support the dream of international friendship, among all people being present at the Centre. Originally Swiss I have some language capabilities that are quite useful here: I speak Swiss German, French and English and understand Italian and a few words of Russian. If I’m not working I love hiking and knitting, both whilst singing.
Olave (CH) - Secret Centre overlord
I'm Olave, but you can just call me Overlord. Since my favourite human has left me, I decided to turn completely evil and take over the world, starting with this Scout Centre. And the humans don't suspect anything, sneaky as I am, I hide my true intentions behind a wall of cuteness. In my free time, I like to hide under the coke machine where from I can get to my secret underwater base in the Oeschinensee via a hidden tunnel. Recently I also discovered Twitter as a way to subjugate the humans and spread my message! Next to world domination my second favourite thing in the world are balls of wool. Oh, and I like the collected works of Rebecca Black! And now excuse me, I have a Centre to rule with an iron paw!
POL (LU) - PR & MArketing Assistant
Aloha, I'm Pol and I'm from Luxembourg, one of the 12 citizens of this fictional country. I fell in love with KISC during my Short Term season this Spring, so I decided to return as PR & Marketing Assistent and stay a bit longer than three months. Recently I have discovered rock climbing as an awesome way to spend my days off, which is why I'm hoping for the weather to stay this nice a little longer, so I can continue to enjoy climbing without freezing my hands off. When I'm not out in the mountains, riding my unicorn to hunt ferocious mountain squirrels, I like to make up Staff descriptions for cats and people that forgot to send theirs in. If you come to KISC, I'm the guy with the camera, so don't be shy, just say hi! Pol out.
Raquel (ES) - House Assistant
As B.-P. said: "Clean the Dream!" I'm Raquel from Spain. I need everything to be neat and tidy under my feet at KISC, I hate smelly toilets and dirty socks which appear under the beds. I love mountains around Kandersteg, climbing, cicling... As part of the 'Spanish Invasion Team' here I love siestas every days to feel better.
RIIKKA (FI) - Programme Administration Assistant
Hei, I’m Riikka from Finland. I like eating lactose free yogurt, knitting and baking some finnish bread whenever possible. On my days off I like to escape to discover the mountains, that’s always good fun!
Rikke (DK) - Autumn 2011
Halløjsa! My name is Rikke (which no one is able to pronounce, but that doesn't matter) and I'm from Denmark. I'm really excited about all the crazy adventures I'll have here at KISC! I love having a good laugh and to play around.
SAM (UK) - Grounds Assistant
Hello, My name is Sam and I'm from Liverpool in the UK. I first came to KISC in the summer of 2010 with my Scout group from Lydiate. We had a fantastic time and I would recommend it to everyone. I started working here at KISC, in October 2010, as a Helper in the Arabian Suite renovation. Since then, I have been a member of the Short Term Staff team for Winter and now I'm KISC's Grounds Assistant. All the time I've spent in Kandersteg I have thoroughly enjoyed and I can't wait to get started working on our campsites during Autumn and preparing for Winter.
Su (KR) - Autumn 2011
안녕 - Annyoung! I'm Su Youn from South Korea, but you can call me Su, that's much easier. But I want people to call me Su Youn while we are playing name games! I happen to be the only Asian staff in Autumn 2011! Which is a bit lonely, haha. Just kidding! I am really enjoying myself being in Switzerland, Kandersteg and KISC with other friends from all over the world!!! I love being here, I love the people here and I love the fact that I get to try at least one new thing everyday! I'm getting addicted to KISC!
susi (CH) - Administration Assistant
Heiii Schmützli zäme, my name is Schmusi-Susi and I'm from Switzerland, downtown Walenstadt. I work as Administration Assistant at the Centre, but in all honesty I do much more than checking bills and filing papers! In fact I'm also the official KISC gossip go-through girl, part-time radio gangsta music assistant and finally I keep everyone on the phone longer than necessary with my "Tschüss, Ciao, Tschüss, Tschüss, Tschüss, Ciao, Ciao, Tschüss..."
VANYA (BG) - Catering Assistant
Hi, I am Vanya form Bulgaria! I like reading, dancing with friends and cuddling my lovely cat Frederik.
