OFF THE GROUND... IS SPRING 2009!
You can click on the floating Pinkies and enlarge them.
AH RUEM (KR) - SPRING 2009
"Whats a website description?". It's something you would like to say about yourself so other people can read about you, little Ah Ruem. "Hum, ok... JAMES BROWN!"
AMOS (KE) - FRONT OFFICE ASSISTANT (outgoing)
It’s been an awesome place to work, I have seen the transition of 3 seasons, from Autumn to Winter and to Spring. Now it’s about time for me to leave. I’m gon miss this place, lot’s of memories, now I have to go back to killing lions as a hobby...anyone wanna come with me...but you have to invest in a nice pair of running shoes. The lions eat the slowest runners.
ANDREW (AU) - ASSISTANT PROGRAMME DIRECTOR
G´day! Im a vegatarian adrenaline hunter, but crikey! Safety is the most important thing! My favourite food is roast wallaby dipped in kangaroo sauce with a sprinkleing of koala. Don´t knock it till you tried it! My hobbies include tying my kangaroo down, eating rosti and downhill snooker. I've also invented the "goodwalk", that is like Michael Jackson's famous "Moonwalk", but forwards.
ANNA (FI) - INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIP ASSISTANT
I'm a happy person and I enjoy a good giggle and... WOW! This keboard has buttons that go from F1 to F16! I wonder what happens if I press them all... uh–oh! That didn't sound too good. I've invented a music style called "pop-hop", that consist in singing hip-hop with your mouth full of popcorn.
CHRIS (UK) - MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT
Jack of all trades who thrives off of a challange. Hobbys are working, skiing, running. Enjoys phisical labour: its the best work out you can get and it's productive.
CONNY (NL) - PR & MARKETING MANAGER
I'm Conny from the Netherlands. Together with Tati I am responsible for the website, newsletters, brochures, and a lot of other marketing activities.
I love the wonderful mixture of living in a small Alpine village and working together with the international staff here at KISC.
CREIGHTON (CA) - SPRING 2009
Ello! I'm Creighton from Canada, and super excited to be here at KISC. When I'm not working you can find me reading, playing piano in the Eco Room or researching things of zero importance. More importantly, you can find me with a long smile, and proud to wear pink. Keep your stick on the ice!
DAVE (UK) - SPRING 2009
Weey-yo! I am Dave and I'm ready for my next adventure, after being overseas and earning this scar durring a mighty strugle - but now I've learned to stop picking my nose. I am a geezer from Ching Ford - don't underestimate me, I am bigger than my body gives me credit for. I've also invented the "moonspoon", it's a spoon with a picture of the moon, so you can see the moon in the spoon if you say "thank you" - oh no, I was not suppose to tell you that! Bye, I'm gonna jump through the window now. Yey!
DAVID (RU) - SPRING 2009
Hi, I'm David, the biggest Spice Girls fan in Russia, and more. I like electronic games: a computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing! I also like writing poetry. Ehem, listen to this: "If you are sad and lonely / go outside and ride a poney / And if after that you're still very sad / just come back inside and go back to bed". I made Sharapova cry with that one! I've also invented a band called "DoTu", that is like the russian pop duo TaTu but made with a donkey and a turtle.
ELIANE (CH) - CATERING SUPERVISOR
Grüssech, I'm the Swiss Catering Supervisor working part-time at the Centre. In the rest of my time I work as a teacher and local politician in the nearby town of Spiez. After all that, when I can find the time, I love to go skiing, climbing and enjoy a nice massage!
FELIPE (BR) - RECEPTION MANAGER
Some call me Phileepay, some call me Phileep, to avoid confusion you can call me Flip Flop, but my real name is Felipe. I am the Reception Manager here at KISC and I help and communicate with all our guests before, during and after their stay. If you are coming to KISC anytime soon you will probably get in touch with me at some point, unless I am on a day off, then I will probably be skiing a snowy mountain or sleeping through the day after a hard night dancing in one of our local pubs.
GEOFF (CA) - PROGRAMME ADMIN. ASSISTANT
Howdy, I'm Geoff from Canada and I take care of the administration in the programme office, if you book an activity you will probably talk to me. When I'm not in the office you will most likely find me somewhere else.
GILLIAN (IE) - GUEST SERVICES DIRECTOR
My name's Gillian and I'm Deputy Director for Guest Services. My team and I are here to ensure all our guests' creature comforts are looked after! When we are off, we love to catch a cable-car out of the valley and into the snowy mountains to stretch the legs, take in the spectacular views and catch some rays. In my spare time, I love to do all things creative... name a craft, and I've probably done it at some stage!
IRAKQUI (DE) - ADMINISTRATION ASSISTANT
I read Socrates. This guy knocked off little Greek boys. What on earth he got to teach me? And Nietzsche, with his theory of eternal recurrence. He said that the life we lived we're gonna live over again the exact same way for eternity. Great. That means I'll have to sit at the Administration desk again. It's not worth it. And Freud , another great pessimist. I was in analysis for years and nothing happened. My poor analyst got so frustrated, the guy finally put in a salad bar. Maybe the poets are right. Maybe love is the only answer.
JENS (IE) - INTERNAL SERVICES DIRECTOR
My name's Jens and I'm the Internal Services Director. In between looking after the Internal Services work (can you figure out what I do?), I try and climb, ski, hike and enjoy the nightlife in Kandersteg. I was STS in Summer 2004, Campsite Manager in 2005 and 2007 Project Director in 2006/07. I come from Dublin in Ireland were I am part of the 47th Dublin (Ballybrack) Scout group.
KIKE (ES) - SPRING 2009
Hola! I'm Kike, the only Spanish Scout in this alpine land. When I visited KISC for first time in Summer 06, I decided to repeat the experience. Last October I spent a week with the 2nd Spanish Work Party but it wasn't enough, so I decided to be a Short Term Staff in Spring 09! If you don't find me at KISC, I probably be snowboarding, climbing, hiking... or having a drink in the pub.
LENE (DK) - BOOKKEEPER
Hi, I'm little Lene and I live at the other side of the mountains, where the rainbows are beautiful. I'm good making numbers so I like to come over to KISC one or twice a week to do the Centre's bookkeeping and say hi to my local fans. When I'm not working at the Centre (what is the 90% of my time) I'm probably playing with my two lovely kids or travelling in far far away countries. I can also speak german part-time, if needed.
LOU (IT) - HOUSE MANAGER
Ciao! I'm Luisa and I'm from the beautiful Sicily. Here at KISC I'm a kind of a "Fashion Guru" of the Chalet, taking care of everything from waxing floors to brushing toilets, rolling sheets or giving orders like "mop fhe floor!" and so on - it depends. When I'm off I like to take a good relaxing bath with Lush products, read girly novels, listen to Indie Music and cook italian dishes. But if I'm the right mood, I might hit the Thun old town for some impulsive high-street shopping, caramel coffee and cherry cake. Yey!
LYNSEY (UK) - SPRING 2009
Hello you, this is little Lynsey here. I love Switzerland, I love it and I love it so SOOOOOO much, yey!! Yay!! WAHEYYY!! OK then. When I'm not walking the cows, yodelling, making fondue or eating my daily ration of Toblerones (3 blacks, 2 whites, 4 milk with 2lt of Rivella) you might not find me: I'm probably out there trying to find Roger Federer and marry him. I have invented a new meal called "dinnerinox", that is like dinner but using a Victorinox as only cutlery.
MARK (NL) - DIRECTOR
I have been in Switzerland for the past 8 years working both at the Centre and for the World Scout Bureau. I like to walk with my dogs, read and go to the cinema and concerts. I am the proud owner of four beautiful full bred Golden Retrievers answering (well most of the time) to the names of Laika, Pickles, Bodansky and Bonk. If you can not find me in my office I could be anywhere at the Centre or in the Tearoom eating cakes!
MIKE (UK) - GROUNDS ASSISTANT
Servus, my name is Mike, but I like it when girls call me "Mikey Bear" - it makes me feel soft and cozy. But if you are a boy... then I'll teach you how to live with Mike's Rules of Power Life: 1) Get rid of your white shirts, they don't go well with your chainsaw; 2) Get yourself a chainsaw! 3) No three. Man don't like odd numbers. I also invented a powertool called "The Mikesaw", that is like a chainsaw but with ME behind it! WROOOOOOMMMMMM!!
NALAKA (LK) - HOUSE ASSISTANT
What's up, doc? This is rusty Nalaka in the land of Swiss eating oranges with salt and pepper and drinking Tabasco syrup. I love texan Rock & Roll, and things that rolls in general (like wheels or golf balls). When I'm not alive and kicking in the snow I'm probably jumping barefoot on a Rock concert. I also have a band called "5 Random Dudes" - I play the banjo and Barney plays the lead banjo. I've invented the "Bug-a-rena", that is just like dancing Macarena with your pants filled up with bugs.
PAUL (UK) - BUILDING COORDINATOR
Sallu little boys and girls, this is Big Paul who speaks here and you better listen now. I can make anything out of wood (even cellphones and planets) and my hobbie is to dismantle and move buildings up to the mountains with my bare hands. At the moment I'm finishing the Kander-Lodge with my team of barbarians, but my next project is to rebuild the Windsor Palace in Kandergrund with my bare hands - as soon as I receive the Cantonal permit (last update: April 1st). I don't know anything about websites though, but I hope you are all OK there dancing in the Matrix whilst I'm changing the real world here.
PIP (AU) - SPRING 2009
G´day, I'm Pip from Australia, and I say Jiraffes are like tigers with a horse style, yey! I like Bonk, Pickles, Lino and Apples, except for on Tuesday – oranges are better, yum-yum. My hobbies incude taking pictures of my shadow, chasing marmots and looking in the mirror to see what's behind me (it is really fun and you can learn a lot!). I dont like Wacom tablets and chocolate in the shape of little poor chicken - it is sad! I also have 7 fingers and 2 thumbs - If I do not count the one that I'm using to count the rest of them. Paper tastes great if it has enough Nutella on in my opinion. When grow up I want to be a blue unicorn. I've invented a new cloth called "pip-shirt", that is like a tshirt but only for Pip.
RAKEL (IS) - SPRING 2009
Hi, I'm Rakel from Iceland. Back at home I live in a snowhouse and I eat shark and cod liver oil for every meal. I love snow and stories. I can tell you a good one about a cup of tea. I have plenty of talents, like getting sunburned easily and yes, it is true: I can melt snow with my eyes - just ask Mark Knippenberg! One last thing: I don't bite, or do I?
ROBERT (CA) - SPRING 2009
I'm Robert, born in Canada. This place is awesome. When I'm not tumble-drying my socks I like to go to the forest and fight the bears. Because I can never find any, I always end up playing that all the trees are ninjas trying to kill me. Then I get very scared of the ninjas and hide behind a rock for long hours, hoping Jackie Chan will come and rescue me. Eventually I get bored of this game and run back and safe to the Chalet, just in time for Thought for the Day. I've invented a new dance called "tangoat", that is like tango but dancing with goats.
SCORPIO (UK) - SPRING 2009
My name is Malcom, but I like to be called Scorpio – because it sounds mean and cute girls like mean dudes. You´re probably thinking mean is cool too... Ok, you weren´t, but I was! My mean hobbies include snowman wrestling, riding my chopper, ripping reusable paper and flower pressing. My favourite number is orange and favourite food is glue. I've invented a new dish called "Azzip", that is basically a pizza but upside-down.
STEFAN (DE) - SPRING 2009
Hello, I'm Stefan from Bavaria. I stay here as Staff for Spring 09. KISC is a unique place with lovely people. When I'm not working you can find me snowboarding, hiking or climbing.
TATI (AR) - PR & MARKETING ASSISTANT
Tati (born in Buenos Aires, uncertain year) is an Argentinean artist, conqueror and horse rider. During his years working for a comic publisher as "multipurpose dude", Tati found himself referred to in the media as the "spokesman of a generation". He was uncomfortable with the attention and placed his focus on his Wacom tablet, believing his message and artistic vision to have been misinterpreted by the public. The circumstances that leaded him to leave Argentina and move to Switzerland have become a topic of fascination and debate for many philosophers. He also likes to write exaggerated biographies of himself in third-person to be published on international scout websites.
TIM (UK) - CATERER
My name is Tim, alias "Sweet Mango": cook of the stars. After Sting fired me for hiding a bacon sandwich on his acoustic bass I decided to move to Switzerland, pursuing a career as professional boxer. Whilst training for the heavy-weight world championship I enjoy cooking for the Pinkies and making soup with magic flavours. I'm a lot more attractive in person, so don't believe in pictures. I've invented a new sport called "footpan", that is like football but kicking a pan.
TOM (IE) - PROGRAMME DIRECTOR
Hey, I'm Tom from the west of Ireland and I'm the Programme Director. This means that I work in making sure that we provide the best activities and experiences to our guests; whether that is throwing them into crevasses or exciting games around the Centre.
In my free time I like to do things - mainly outdoors and involving mountains!
NEW ADDITIONS TO OUR FLEET...
ALEX (UK) - CAMPSITE ASSISTANT
Hello! I´m Alex, but you can call me Doof (Tom calls me ´the unflushable one´). When I´m not fighting crime on the streets of Kandersteg, playing kazoo for ´5 random dudes´ or polishing my nobel prize award, you can find me putting up tents on the campsite or having a cigarette in the gas store room. When I grow up I definately want to be an astronaught or a dentist and have a horse named Barney.
Now where did I put my radio...?
JEAN (ZA) - HIGH ADVENTURE ASSISTANT
Spiderman, Spiderman, does whatever a spider can... Yes thats me, the rad South African guy incharge of the High Adventure Programme here at KISC. If you`re keen on adventure, living life on the edge, and enjoying the Swiss Alps, I`m the man to see.
MICHAEL (DE) - CAMPSITE MANAGER
Salve, here is Sweet Michael driving this lovely tractor (named Chloe) around the magic Campsite to collect your rubbish and clean toilets! My work here is to be sure all our campers have the sweetest stay when coming to this lovely Centre - what means sticking my hand in the dirt quite often, but no worries: I bath this precious body with pistaccio shower gel at least once every... (I'm counting)... six to eight days (but only if the weather is nice!). When I am not working I like to paint flowers (paint them green, for example), cuddle my teddy bear, roll in the sand, imagine people using moustache (it makes me laugh!) and to pick my nose under the moonlight. I've invented a new game called "hide and sick", but only my Assistant Alex likes to play it with me...
TINE (DK) - SHOP MANAGER
Hej, I'm Tine and I come from the flat country of Denmark. Back home I used to work in a supermarket, where I would catch a lot of thiefs. Here there are none, which is nice - you don't have to lock your bike - or your house.
When I'm not dealing with the shop, I enjoy basic hiking and climbing (you will not find me on the top of any mountain), go to the pub for beer, ice cream or both and riding down hill on bikes with no brakes.
band of dogs: OUR PET army
BODANSKY (NL) - COLONEL
"The truth? You can't handle the truth!"
Bodansky has 'gone home' on 24th June 2009.
LAIKA (NL) - VICE ADMIRAL
"I would sign the surrender of my fleet, but only if you share that delicious chicken leg with me".
Laika passed peaceful away on 8th May 2009.
BONK (NL) - AIR CHIEF MARSHALL
"13:44. The sky is clean. No signs of counterattack. WAIT! What is that? Ah, no, it is just a cloud. 13:45. The sky is clean...".
OLIVE (CH) - LOONEY CADET
"They think I'm nuts. They are all against me. But one day Venus will attack our planet and they will know that this crocodrile was right!".
