We have all found out in recent days that a volcano and its cloud are enough to stop a whole continent, but surprising enough this (famous) cloud did not really stop KISC running at full speed.
Things happened quite normally, lots of people arrived and then departed and only three or four were delayed on their way home. This was not a cause of stress at all, as it has been seen simply as the perfect opportunity to enjoy the Alpine scenery, meet more people and have a wander around the valley. So while Europe was freaking out around airports, train stations and car rental points, here at KISC we continued deep cleaning, waxing floors, buliding walls, chopping wood and hosting meetings and events.
First was the World Scout Bureau - Global Staff Meeting, which ran from April 12th to 18th and saw the participation from the WOSM Central Office and all of the Regional Offices. In a very busy schedule of meetings, including the WSB - Executive Directors Meeting, the 59 participants enjoyed meeting the Staff, having foundue and discovering Kandersteg.
In not even a week, it was time for Agora 2010 - the KanderRock! If you have never heard about it before: Agora is an event run for Rovers by Rovers. This event allows young people from all over Europe to get together, exchange ideas and ideals, different cultures and knowledge and, most important of all, it makes young people not only do things, but be together!
This year Agora was attended by 18 participants from Italy, Denmark, Netherlands, Lithuania, Faroe Islands, Spain, Portugal, Romania and France. A good mix of nationalities and happy Rovers which turned the team very quickly into a jugernaut discussing and learning about Scouting image, environment, youth and entrepreneurship and about all the Rover programme and opportunities in Europe. The event was concluded by an International Evening where, together with all of the Pinkie Team, everyone had the chance to present something about their own country and try delicious food and drink specialities.
We have already waved goodbye to the Agora participants and while enjoying some of the tasty food leftovers from the International Evening, we are warming up for the arrival of the Spanish and Dutch Work Parties and some new Long Term Staff - yeah!
Stay tuned with our latest news and hope to see you soon at KISC!
