The Kander-Lodge is open!
It was almost a year ago. The 7th of July 2008, KISC got the keys to a building situated down the valley, in nearby Mitholz. Throughout July and August, our team worked on making the building ready for its move to Kandersteg and, in September, Kander-Lodge made its way up the "S" bends to Kandersteg and was rebuilt at the River Kander, opposite the Chalet.
Finally, on Saturday 30st May 2009, Kander-Lodge was ready to be opened and to make the dream of a Permanent Mini-Jamboree even bigger.
The ceremony started at 16:00 hrs when all invitees, guests and staff gathered inside the Kander-Lodge. The ceremony started with speeches by Marc Lombard (Chairman KISC Foundation) and Thijs Stoffer (Chairman KISC Association). Then, the first copies of the new book "A History of KISC" where handed to Luc Panissod (Secretary General of WOSM), Anne Guyza & Andrea Dermarmels (Board members of the Swiss Scout Movement), David McKee (Director World Scout Bureau - European Regional Office), the Kandersteg Community Council and Tourist Office, and several Honorary Members of the KISC Association.
Mark Knippenberg (KISC Director) together with Staff members from all Scout Regions in the World, unveiled the name sign over the terrace in Kander-Lodge marking the official opening of the building. An apero was served whilst all invitees got the chance to take a view at the different rooms and facilities inside the building.
At 18:00 hs the Ceremony continued in the Campsite, where the official naming of the Hächu's Lodge took place to honor Peter Eigenmann, Honorary Member of the KISC Association who had 'gone home' in September 2008. This was followed by a barbaque in and around Hächu's Lodge.
Then it was time for live music and party in the ground floor of the Kander-Lodge until 24:00 hs, when the celebrations officially closed.
We have some videos of the Opening Ceremony available at YouTube:
