News On Trikes
Summer season started at KISC! What better way to jump into a new season than welcoming new Short Term Staff from all over the world? On June 11th, 31 new Short Term Staff from UK, USA, Canada, Uruguay, Brazil, Philippines, Maldives, Egypt, South Korea, Japan, Ghana, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Russia, Ireland, Denmark, Portugal and Australia arrived at KISC! We are very excited to have such a international team! It's now training time for all of them and also the last chance for the LTS to finish up the summer preparation.
Meanwhile over the last two weeks we welcomed many Scouts and Guides, about 400 to be exact, coming from Finland, Switzerland, Australia, Romania, Germany, The UK, The USA, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, South Korea and Italy. Special addition to our guest list were the WOSM European Scout Committee and some members of the European Regional Office as well as two Australian Scouts visiting KISC on their way to the WSJ in Sweden.
The European Scout Committee stayed in the Kander-Lodge and used our meeting rooms and conference facilities. In between one meeting and the other they enjoyed chatting with Staff and helping out with some French translation.
The two Australian Scouts: Adam Kilpatrick and Stephen Warren-Smith, are travelling to the 22nd World Scout Jamboree 2011 on trikes. It's a real expedition from Australia to Sweden started last October from Adelaide and now almost done. A long journey on trikes was a dream that finally came true last year for these two Scouts. They prepared the route, trained, packed light and began their adventure with the motto "doing it for the kids". The greater aim behind this expedition is "to inspire youth and promote Scouting and adventurous activities and their positive benefits amongst youth worldwide". About 200 days are gone since they cycled their first km and since then every place they've passed through and face they've met has been documented on their website. They have cycled their way through many countries among which Ethiopia, Turkey, Romania and Austria. You can follow on their website the route they have ahead, maybe a great chance for you and your Scouts to meet them and share the spirit of International Scouting by giving them hospitality overnight or cycling some kilometres with them.
During their stay at KISC, both Adam and Stephen enjoyed taking part to some activities with Staff, helping out, chatting away at any time. It was great meeting them, they are two truly happy chappies!
It's also time for our Weekly Photo Galleries to start! Make sure to have a look at our newest ones here!
