Hike, sing, chat, learn and splash!
Here is the truth, I have been wondering on how I could have opened this latest news article in a good way but I didn't come up with anythng really. No cool introduction or effective opening line. I'm sorry!
Something you should really know however, is that things could not be better at KISC right now. We had such a great two weeks! There was quite a lot of singing involved but also wonderful weather, hundreds of people, fantastic activities and a lot of genuine Scouting. So get in the mood, come and visit us, or if not, at least join us in the famous Kander-Rap "When I say 'Kander', you say 'steg'... Kander-steg! Kander-steg!" - this is definitely the right mood!
We currently have guests from Spain, the Netherlands, Denmark, Scotland, Cyprus, Ireland, Finland, Canada, Switzerland, Germany and USA. These last ones are mainly on site with Scouts belonging to the TAC (Transatlantic Council) for their yearly Camp Alpine.
The Centre is really buzzing with Summer life! International Night and BBQ was great last night! We danced Scottish style to bagpipe music, tasted Irish salmon, Danish licorice and Cypriot sweet jellies. We changed scarves and badges, played with the hula hoops and made new friends all evening long! Last week's campfire was so nice, we had very funny sketches and lots of Norwegian songs! Tonight is campfire again, so everyone is excited and looking very much forward to it, there will be around 380 people there, and so much to sing and laugh about! But that's not all... we had a fantastic International Sport Afternoon in the last days. There was plenty of challenges and things to try out - you know it is not all about football! As I am talking to you we have a few groups on various one day or overnight hikes, and some other are enjoying swinging across the Zip Wire, climbing up the top of Jacobs Ladder, crafting woggles and friendship bracelets, learning about nature in the Alps, having a splash at the swimming pool or just enjoying the sunshine - Have a look to This Week at KISC Photo Gallery!
To make all of this even more exciting we are also happy to announce the start of the Snow and Ice activities - oh yeah! I hope you are all ready to rock the glacier up at the Fründenhutte and to jump in and out of a crevasse! Our Snow and Ice Helpers (feel free to call them "SNICE crew") are pumped and ready to meet you! They are Tuuli from Estonia, Matt from the UK, Rick from the Netherlands and Eoin from Ireland. They are easy recognisable as they wear green, look fit, smell of mountain hut and enjoy spreading suncream on and carrying heavy ice axes and ropes around - so try to spot them!
Another addition to the Pinkies Team are the High Season Staff. They will only be here for six weeks and you will see them working around either in Programme, Campsite or around the Chalet. And on top of that they are funny, smiley, messy at times and they are: Emmy (SE), Jenneke (NL), Esther (NL), Amanda (AU), Birgitte (DK), Carlo (IT), Zack (US), Paul (UK) and Pete (UK).
Oh yeah... we have quite a lot of people around! A bit more than 70 in pink, a few in green and a Greenpeace helper - Jean-Luc (CH). Have a look to our Current Staff page to find out a bit more about the Pinkies or just find us for a chat!
See you soon!
