It has been a few weeks since the last snow and outside the roads got very icy and patches of grass started appearing in the white. Everyone was starting to doubt getting any skiing done this season. Then we woke up this morning to a great surprise: fresh snow! A light, white, fluffy layer landed on the village and was a great 'good morning' for everyone! Here, at KISC, the snow is not the only news. In fact a couple of days ago a new season kicked in - it's time for Winter 2011!
This time, let me tell you, it was more difficult than usual to wave goodbye to the Autumn STS, as they did such a great job and had a good spirit at all times. But also, it was time to say 'bye to many LTS that have been at KISC for the last one, two, three or four years and worked hard to contribute to the Centre in their own way. Many of you reading possibly met them during your last visit as they checked you in and out, arranged your activity vouchers, ran a service project with your group or gave you a Chalet Tour. They are: Rahel (CH) - Senior House Manager, Nalaka (LK) - House Manager, Andrew (AU) - Assistant Programme Director, Chris (UK), Grounds Assistant and Kaspar (CH) - Administration Assistant.
KISC is a special place and it doesn't allow anyone to be sad for too long... just a few days after the Autum STS and LTS departures a new wave of people arrived and jumped into the Centre's life. I'm talking about our new STS crew, composed of ten Scouts and Guides from Germany, UK, Hungary, South Africa, Sweden, Australia and Finland. We also welcome five new LTS: Wasel (LY) - Front Office Assistant, Riikka (FI) - Programme Admin. Assistant, Jenneke (NL) - House Manager, Dato (GE) - House Assistant and Susi (CH) - Administration Assistant.
This week will be full of training all around the Centre for the new Staff to learn all about different working areas and prepare for the first guests. Then we will jump straight into a busy Christmas and New Years period and the first Ski Week!
I also have for you a short update on the Arabian Suite: it's almost done! After an intense work schedule over the last few months, we are now in the final phase of the renovation. Michael (DE) - Maintenance Assistant - is now putting the wood boards on the walls and fitting the lights and the heaters. Then all beds will go in with duvets, pillows and the rest. We'll soon have some pictures for you of the finished rooms, so keep an eye on our website.
