90 years Celebrations at KISC!
Last week was a busy week, but despite that, I can only say that it is trying to be sunny here at KISC, despite thick layers of snow, the sun has really tried her best to say hallo even if it is just for a short time. The weekend was exciting and I have been dying to update you on how the yearlong Jubilee celebrations are coming up. Last weekend was the Jubilee Egg tapping Challenge that took place in the Kandersteg village and saw over 100 people participate in the challenge, which was before they could eat their eggs.
At first, was a melodious entertainment by the Apero, trust me, if you hear them play those instruments, you will not want them to stop. I came to know that egg tapping is a Swiss game usually called the ‘Swiss Kandertütsch’ (still perfecting my Swiss-German ascent to pronounce this) involves people playing with boiled eggs. The idea is, you have to hit as many eggs and crack them without cracking yours and you will be a winner! Easy, I thought, but after massively crushing two eggs, (thinking I am the Champion) my egg crushed and was forced to eat my egg! At the end, we shared refreshments including the two-metre long bread as the winners for the egg tapping were announced.
Three of our staff, Amy (NZ), Dries (NL) and Jack (UK), were part of the Gosse Network Seminar that took place in Luxembourg. The tree day event saw 25 participants from different centres take part in games and discussions that aimed at promoting good practices in the centres. The GOOSE Network is a network of Scout Centres in Europe that aims to improve the quality of environmental, nature and cultural activities at European Scout and Guide Centers by sharing ideas, activities and information. See the website for more details.
The management team paid a visit to Our Chalet in Adelboden, the Swiss World Centre of WAGGGS. After some hours of meetings the two management teams shared experiences and best practices hopefully for both Centres further developments.Everyone is now talking about the next Jubilee celebrations; the Jubilee Weekend that is set for 24th-26th May 2013. The registration fee is 90 CHF and the booking done online by filling the online booking form.Remember to tick the Jubilee box in the form. This year KISC is turning 90 years since it’s opening in 1923 where the Centre has continued to live the dream of making a ‘Permanent Mini-Jamboree’. Indeed it was a ‘Jubilated’ week!
